A day of 3 rejections. :( UPenn, Columbia, Stanford.

Even though I got into Northwestern two weeks ago which is the school I was leaning towards, this hurts a lot... especially when my friend is all happy and cheery cause she got into harvard... I am jealous.

just kinda venting ish. rejects unite!

By Peachieva (Peachieva) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 07:04 pm: Edit

I got rejected by Brown, the lowest ranked school to which I applied but I don't care. I did get in to Stanford (EA), Northwestern, and Rice (w/merit scholarship). Instead of being depressed count your blessings. Sorry to hear about Stanford though.

By Chardonnay (Chardonnay) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 07:44 pm: Edit

rejected by harvard and stanford today. it does hurt, even though i thought i was happy with my other choices. more of a blow to my pride than anything else, i suppose.

Brown is by far better than those schools that you got accepted to, maybe besides Stanford. Rankings are dumb. I'd pick brown over NU and Rice anyday

Rejected by Yale and Harvard, waitlisted by Columbia. Oh happy day!

By Synapse (Synapse) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 08:43 pm: Edit

dude.. you should be thankful you got rejected by them. Just to be even considered by an IVY is a big deal. Knowing that you were capable enough to even apply means alot. Very few ppl actually have the grades to make an ivy let alone be rejected by one. You should be proud.

By Britt85 (Britt85) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 08:49 pm: Edit

i agree with synapse... plus be happy you've heard something... i still havent heard ANYTHING and there is no telling when i will and what the news will be...

ah well, I still have to wait until next year to apply to colleges. But you guys that got rejected, I am so sorry. I wish you best of luck in the world. I know I would be jump off in to the nearest abyss depressed if I got rejected from all those colleges. (Yeah, cant wait until next year .. -_-) But *gives you all a big hug* no worries, k?

Rejected by Brown, Yale, Penn in one day...woohoo! I think I will be going to UCLA, or maybe Emory. It's going to be tough to move on though. *sigh*

By Mom08 (Mom08) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 09:00 pm: Edit

To have been able to be considered good enough to apply...that makes you all great already.

By Itempest (Itempest) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 09:12 pm: Edit

Heh, I too had a field day with the rejections: Brown, U Penn, Harvard.

Brown and Harvard, okay, but U Penn, I actually thought I had a shot. That one hurt the most.

Now, waiting is hard for Cornell and Johns Hopkins. Although I'd still prefer Berkeley over Cornell, Johns Hopkins and Berkeley may be a tough decision to make and I want to have that decision to make.

I want to have to choose between EVERY college I applied to. But oh well.

By Mmnnbb (Mmnnbb) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 10:04 pm: Edit

wen i applied to ivies i musta been delusional... rejected by EVERY SINGLE ONE, ('cept dartmouth who's rejection comes tommorrow)

By Fhmamii (Fhmamii) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 10:13 pm: Edit

rejected by Penn
...is it just me or did Penn get really really tough this year in acceptances??? Oh well...it wasn't my top choice anyway, I still have my Cornell and NYU, it was just a stab in my self esteem

By Mafmaf22 (Mafmaf22) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 10:28 pm: Edit

Yay, I can offially join the melancholy! I got a double rejection from Columbia today. It wasn't good enough that they send me one rejection e-mail, but they sent the letter 2x--one in black and white plain text and the other in full-blown color! Geez, great..thanks for tempting me! Wow, I feel that the emotion and effort poured into the application and the interview could've been best channeled elsewhere. But hey, I gave the IVY a shot--now I won't have to go through life asking what if? Oh well, UC Berkeley here I come!! Watch out =)

By Caliel130 (Caliel130) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 10:59 pm: Edit

Today was quite the day huh! Ivy-Reject Club!

Rejected at Brown, Columbia and Cornell...Brown and Columbia ok but I thought i had a shot at Cornell oh well guess not...

Also, waitlisted at Connecticut College like who the hell are they?

Oh well, I'm going to Colgate, which was of my top choices so I'm really happy overall...

By Wutdeh (Wutdeh) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 03:45 am: Edit

I feel depressed. rejected by a bunch of ivies, in at U of C. Chicago is an awesome school, but it still doesn't really make me feel any better.

By Sardonia (Sardonia) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 04:27 am: Edit

If your parents are going to be paying for your education, you shouldn't feel depressed at all.

Take it from someone who is 29 and is finally on his way to getting a four year education, after years and YEARS of hardship and struggle.

Count your blessings and your bad feelings will disappear.

Anyway still have my NU, WUSTL and Ba/MD programs, so i'm pleased

By Firebird31 (Firebird31) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 08:07 am: Edit

Just keep those rejects and when they ask you to speak at their 2028 graduation program because of your achievements, just throw it at them!

By Nyugrad (Nyugrad) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 08:57 am: Edit

Rejected

Harvard
Yale
Dartmouth

Accepted
Columbia (afetr likely)
Cornell (after likely)
Duke (after likely)
CMU
SB 8 yr med program (full scholarship undergrad)
Pitt (full ride)

Go figure- Dartmouth was a surprise but my son told all his interviewers that he did not want to be waitlisted, he'd rather be rejected. He had enough of Yale Ea deferral. So the moral - very worthy candidates are being deferred/waitlisted/rejected by the pile. Please, please don't be depressed, especially by those waving acceptances like trophies. The truth will come in 4 years-it is sometimes better to be the big fish in a smaller pond. You'll see.

jennyssong--
once when I was young, my parents and an aunt who had graduated from northwestern decided they would suggest colleges--I sent out seven apps to schools that were completely crazy. My GC at my hs and I never talked, he was always sloshed.
I was rejected everywhere I applied and should have been accepted at almost all with my stats and gpa and ecs. I wound up going to a school I never saw prior to being dropped off. It was a school way below where I should have been. I wound up absolutely having the best time of my life! I realized over the last 30 years that college doesn't make the person and that many, many interesting and intelligent people graduate from all sorts of schools. Most of the Ivy graduates I've met have never gotten over it and it has handicapped them on their advancement both in life and in the corporate world. No one wants to work for a jerk be they male or female.
Good luck at Northwestern. It is a wonderful school and go get em.

By Jennyzsong (Jennyzsong) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 12:34 am: Edit

the biggest problem is that i thought i would get at least one of those schools... see, if i were to do everything again i can't even think of anything i would do differently. that's the worst part. everyone tells me to be happy with the acceptances i got but i guess i just really expected that little bit more. i don't know what to do. i feel like there's nothing i could have improved on much... but i still couldn't do it.
