Apathy? Envy?...

Haha...at my school, the standard is to go to saddleback community college. Only a small percentage actually go to a 4 year-most are pretty lazy throughout high school. I think they are jealous because all my hard work will pay off and i will have a blast in the next four years..and they will be stuck at home...living with the parents...and never escaping our bubble. it will be the best when i come home for summer and have all these exciting "college stories" to tell...and they will be like "uh yeah...i dropped out of saddleback and now work full time at [insert meaningless minimum wage job here]"

Hey, Britbrat8604, I went to Saddleback for a year and then transfered to Cal Poly Pomona...managed to escape the oc bubble for the 909!!! Your school DHHS by any chance?

Seriously, almost everyone in my school applies to CUNY, if they graduate at all. My school has about a 50% graduation rate. Community college all the way!
Quite a few of them are genuinely happy for me. But a few others have stopped talking to me entirely once they heard which schools I got accepted to. I don't really care either way, because I don't need their validation.

Almost forgot, do they still call Saddleback, UCLA, University of California, left on Avery??!!!

Last year, about 70% of the seniors at my school went to Montgomery College which is a community college. This is about the average every year. That's pretty high. My school is known for having hardcore slackers and it's one of the worst performing in our county.
I'm really proud of my class this year because a lot of kids got accepted to colleges all over the county. To most of them, going to MC was not an option, including me. A lot of teachers have said my senior class has been one of the smartest and well-behaved in a loooooong time.
As for the acceptances, it feels great to know that I'll be going to college, whichever one I choose, in several months. I absolutely can't wait!

Winterfresh -
What school are you at?
I take Fund. of Acting at MC as an extra class this year. I think MC is actually one of the best community colleges in the country, so it's not that bad of an option. However, its always a better option to go to a four year school.
Also - what schools were you accepted to?

I'm going to St. John's College, and my parents are all for it. It fits in with their ideology of learning for learnings sake. As for everyone else...
They all think I've gone completely insane. My economics teacher was lecturing me on the impracticality of a liberal arts degree and not being able to make money. People go "huh?" when i tell them that St. John's offers one major in the liberal arts. Most people in my school stay in state, attending Penn State or IUP. Others go to WVU or a college in OH. My friends all think I'm nuts because its curriculum is based almost entirely on reading and discussion and participation. They actually told me they would prefer to take a scantron math test than learn the theories behind the formulas and such. Weirdos. Its all good though,I enjoy being the odd one

Oceanblue, Don't listen to the naysayers. St. John's is a wonderful educational experience. Trust your instincts on this one. Ten years from now, you'll be glad you did.

St John's is so cool! That would be my ideal school to go to. Swing and ballroom dancing nights, ahhh! ;) But yeah the career thing was a problem.
My school A LOT of people are either taking a year off or going to Joliet Junior College or College of DuPage. Some even go off enlisting because "I'll get money for college.." blah blah. Basically the same deal as Britbrat8604. But the AP kids are also going to a variety of places around the state in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and more.
Well most people in school are either shocked or disgusted that I'm going to NAPS. The junior rotc kids are mad at me. My teachers and my counselor are proud of me, heh.

BYU- most folks just sort of acknowledge that one, they don't really congratulate me other than the valedictorian and I goof off and he congratulates me on just being able to go to college. (Up until recently, he and I were both non-acceptees).
Washington & Lee- my Gov't/Econ teacher (an alumna) was ecstatic that I got in, as well as my old US History teacher (who wrote one rec for me). As far as students go, most all of my classmates were really excited/proud of me. The aforementioned valedictorian paid for my lunch at a local Mexican restaurant that day because I was "man of the hour."

Lucid, I go to Wheaton High School. Have you heard of it?
Yeah, a lot of people do consider MC to be one of the best community colleges. I guess it's just not for everybody. I was accepted to one school in Boston, another in New York and my first choice in North Carolina. I was also accepted to Coppin State and I applied to Bowie and Salisbury.

if i dont get into my two reaches, ill be attending either gettysburg college or dickinson college. i get alot of weird looks from people sometimes.. however they matched all of my criteria (down to earth people, d3 tennis, good prelaw rep, relatively small).. i couldnt be happier attending either of these two, especially seeing how competitive college admissions has gotten.

I'm happy for myself and that's all I need. My parents would prefer that I go to a UC rather than Cal Poly, and I don't like comparing myself to my classmates because someone is always going to accepted to some "better" college (duh) and I'm pretty proud of myself, and I'd like to keep it that way.
We have about 500 seniors... usually about 200ish go to DVC or some other community college, a lot of people go to UCs and state schools, and a select few go to really really good schools (ie georgetown, mit, northwestern, etc), and 3-5 go to HYP and the rest of the Ivies.

I feel like an ass. All of the schools I didn't visit (Northeastern, Penn State, Boston U, Tufts and oh yeah, BROWN) I got into...I should be delighted! But my top 3 (Penn, Harvard, Cornell) I got rejected from...well Cornell I got waitlisted so there is still hope but it sucks. I'm persuaded by Brown but I don't know if it has as good of an engineering program as any of the other schools I got into. I'm also thinking business so hmmm. Well your thoughts, and oh yeah do you guys know anything about Brown Engineering?

Well, 98% of my class stays in-state and attends either Clemson or USC. Many of them go on to live in the same neighborhood for the rest of their lives. There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't want to TALK about seeing the world. I actually WANT TO SEE it. I already had my heart set out on attending a college out of state. It seems like everyone didn't expect me to get in. Now that I am in, it's great to see my name on our college board in the hallway, with Northeastern and Boston College on it. Shocked faces are always funny.

as far as binghamton goes, everyone else is going there so no one really cares. delaware was no surprise.
they're probably going to be surprised to hear that i was waitlisted at gw and nyu though. people think i'm smarter than i actually am, lol.

Last tuesday I recieved my early notification of acceptance to Amherst College with an offer to fund my airfare to go visit... I was estatic, literally jumping for joy... So I go to school and the only response I could get from any of my peers was " What is an Amherst"... I could barly find teachers who had herd of it... Oh well, you guys have heard of Amherst , Right? LOL... Guess thats what you get for living in middle-of-nowhere Oregon...

I live 20 miles east of Seattle and many people in my school have never heard of UPenn. Don't feel too bad! I guess people out here on the west coast are sort of inept to east coast schools.

My school is full of smart kids and Asians with really strict parents. Out of a class of about 800, 68% go to 4 year colleges, 31% go to community college, and 1% is either the military or vocational. A lot of people end up going to UCLA or UC Berkeley. I know a lot of people who look down on community college, and the admiration is usually saved for those who getting into the Ivies, Stanford, CalTech, or MIT.

Try saying Grinnell out here on the West Coast. They always think I have an accent. Of course, people who applied to Reed or Evergreen know about the awesome school in the Midwest.
I just get chuckles when I mention Iowa. Corn fields. Silos. Farms. I've heard it all. I then have to point out that they have a 1 billion dollar endowment which makes it possible to attract people from 50 states (even Hawaii) and 50+ nations.
Not too bad for a college few have heard of here in Washington.
Have a good one.

Dont get ahead of yourself I went to saddleback and most of my friends "college stories" involved drunken drama that ended up with them comming home.
