Has anyone gotten rejected from Davis? I think the reason that Davis isn't really a prestigious school is because they accept practically everyone. I don't mean to be rude or vain with this question, but I'm just wondering.

I was rejected from Davis, but accepted to UCLA.
The reason I was rejected was because I made a mistake entering my coursework. Let's just say, thank goodness UCLA accepts corrections. UC Davis, does not.
ps
you're right about their selectivity. Nearly everyone in my class was accepted to Davis, with the exception of me and two others. Even the kid with the 3.2 GPA and two awards got in. Go figure.

'Even' the kid with two awards and a 3.2 GPA?
Umm..
Lots of people don't even have that.

I'd say about 1/3 of the kids who applied to Davis from my school were rejected. Maybe they weren't the best applicants, but some were within 50 points of acceptance apparently.

The weird thing is that UCSB rejected so many people this year, but Davis didn't. Now, comparing the two, I think UCSB is more prestigious and harder to get in to. But when I talk to people they say Davis is a really good school, but how can it be a really good school if they admit so many people?
By Nmoreno1 (Nmoreno1) on Sunday, March 28, 2004 - 03:13 pm: Edit
yes, 'even' him. does this anger you?
By Aspirer42 (Aspirer42) on Sunday, March 28, 2004 - 03:18 pm: Edit
You seem to be having some interesting experiences with the UC system admissions offices, Nick.
By Nmoreno1 (Nmoreno1) on Sunday, March 28, 2004 - 03:20 pm: Edit
yep.
then again, i could have been just plain out rejected from davis, even if i *had* put the correct courses on there. there will never be a way for me to really know and it was stupid of me to assume that was the reason i was actually rejected.
By Demonllama (Demonllama) on Sunday, March 28, 2004 - 03:25 pm: Edit
I got into UCSB, but was rejected from Davis. oh well. you win some, you lose some.
By Booboo2 (Booboo2) on Sunday, March 28, 2004 - 04:14 pm: Edit
Nmoreno1, can you elaborate on the corrections of the coursework? I also got accepted into UCLA and I have to file a change on coursework as well. If UCLA rejects me, I'm gonna cry..
What happened with you?

i was rejected from Davis and accepted to Santa Barbara. Whatever. Go Santa Cruz!

Davis is trying to become this biggest (student population-wise) UC. I read about it in another section of this forum. My friends at Davis (I have a few) also told me they had to cut back on acceptances this year because of budgeting. Davis is ranked number 4 among the UC's, it doesn't accept everyone. In fact, my friend who had a 4.0 in high school, unweighted, was rejected from Davis two years ago, when the selection process was easier.
UCSB and Davis should not be compared. The only reason they're more selective is because they don't have as much funding, not because their education is better. Last year UCSB spent $150 Million on research as compared to Davis's $450 Million.

If Davis is so much better than Santa Barbara, how come (3 yrs ago) Davis' acceptance rate was 61% and Santa Barbara's was 49%
By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Monday, March 29, 2004 - 12:16 am: Edit
Did you read what I said? Let me reiterate. Davis is trying to become the biggest student population of the UC's. That does not mean they accept people with a lower criteria. It just means they accept those who are in the pool of the usually rejected students who have the same qualifications as those accepted.
Let me try and clarify that, though I shouldn't have to. Harvard turns away hundreds of students with near perfect records--4.0 GPA 1500-1600 SAT scores--all the time. Imagine if their acceptance rate went up. Does that mean they'll be accepting a lower breed of student? No.
UC Davis is simply expanding whereas Santa Barbara has neither the funding nor the standards to do so. Look it up.

"But when I talk to people they say Davis is a really good school, but how can it be a really good school if they admit so many people?"
It's not about the people surrounding you, it's about what you can get out of the school, and Davis from what I hear has world-class professors and excellent facilities, hence its a great school.

From the 2004 Davis admission letter "Know that you are truly special competing with more than 39,000 other applicants for one of just 4,300 spots in our fall freshman class"...doesn't seem to me that Davis takes everybody!!!
By Humbleservant (Humbleservant) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 12:54 am: Edit
The admission rate at Davis is about 70%....that's almost everybody
By Castudent03 (Castudent03) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 12:56 am: Edit

I think more of the "party" type of people are attracted to UCSB, hence they have the oppertunity to reject more people, doesn't mean its a better school...its also in a better location.

Freshman: What are the average GPA and test scores for admission to UC Davis? Is there any way I can still be admitted to UC Davis if I do not meet the regular requirements for admission?
For fall 2003, the average GPA for admitted freshmen was 3.87. The average total SAT I score was 1242 (average Verbal score 598, average Mathematics score 637). The number of applicants exceeds the spaces available; therefore the selection criteria exceed the minimum UC admission requirements. If you don’t meet the regular admission requirements, you may be eligible for admission by exception. You will have to demonstrate your ability and potential to succeed at the University. Requests for consideration for admission by exception should be discussed in the personal statement portion of your application. Typically, 5 percent or fewer of UC Davis’ annual admissions are made by exception.
That's from the website.

i know many people who got into ucsb and not davis. keep in mind that davis is already the largets campus acre per acre, and they have the space to accept more students.
