I am currently a junior at a public high school. I have maintained a straight A-average until this year. However, due to the difficult coursework, I may possibly recieve 4 b's this year (2 in Ap Calc, 1 in Ap Physics, 1 inAp US History). Will this be fatal in admissions to competitive schools because of a falling gpa towards the end of junior year?

Also, my senior schedule next year is pretty rigourous. AP English, AP Gov., AP Psych, honors econ, spanish 5 and vector calc at a community college... because apps are usually due early senior year, is your senior schedule a factor at all for college admissions? (for admissions, not for rescindenses)

I don't think a couple of B's would screw up your chance.

Finally, I think you will do fine with next year schedule. From your AP classes, I think AP Psych and Calc will be a breeze for you. That's my personal experience. Depending on your teacher, Gov might be the hardest class for you next year.

Thanks! Any other takes on the impact of B's during junior year in AP courses?

I wouldn't worry too much about a few B's here and there...I thought I was completely screwed after making a B in trig/precal soph. year and then again in AP Calc AB junior year, but even with those B's I've gotten in everywhere I applied so far, even my top choice, MIT, which I thought was completely hopeless. In other words, have faith, I'm sure things will turn out okay for you.

Another thing, will any of your teachers change final grades if you make a 5 on the AP exam in that subject? I got my grade in chem bumped to an A because of that last year, and it's a fairly common practice at my school. It may be worth asking your teachers about.

don't worry about it. i got so many B's in high school (3 in freshman year, 2 sophomore, 2 junior year) and i still managed to wriggle into yale via early action train. as long as you have good SATs, extra curriculars, recommendations and essay, you can definitely make up for your GPA

you just need to find a way to stick out :)
