Since there are so many waitlisted people here I thought we should start a thread. So, here it is. Use this thread to offer and receive advice on how to get out of admissions limbo. And, for fun, let's have a contest to see who has the most waitlists by the end of admissions decisions. So far I am 2 in 2 waitlisted.

This doesn't mean anything unless you post the stats and the school names --
By Yellowcard05 (Yellowcard05) on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 10:30 am: Edit
Frizzbug I'm 2 in 4...so far I've been getting two letters a day (for two days haha) and one's a rejection and one's a waitlist each time. Hooray. I'm hoping it will change when I check the mail today...
Let's not obsess about stats, shall we? I got waitlisted at Bates and so did a bunch of other people who's stats were way way better...obviously it's not as important as everyone thinks.

Got another waitlist today from a school I was expecting to get into. WOW.

ROFL
I just got waitlisted from Northwestern.
Oh, well, tough luck. I haven't received anything from Harvey Mudd today. It could be bad news but I don't care.
By Tri_N (Tri_N) on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 02:36 pm: Edit
Oh yeah, I been accepted to four schools including Trinity College (CT), Davidson, Carnegie Mellon, Swarthmore.
It is really tough to receive a rejection letter first. However, at this point, I really don't care about my rejection especially when Swarthmore (my first choice) has accepted me.
DAMN IT! There goes my acceptance streak out of the window. I need a hug!

U Mass Amherst- Accepted
Swarthmore- Rejected
Haverford- Waitlist
Middlebury- Waitlist
I'm waiting on 4 more schools (Yale, Brown, Oberlin, Reed) and will kill them if they waitlist me. I'm expecting rejections from the first 3 schools and acceptance from Reed.
So, what's everyone planning on doing to get off the waitlists? I'm going to write a letter or two a week, plus a poem, and maybe pictures and songs too. I don't expect to be accepted at either Middlebury or Haverford but I might as well try. =)

By Ch2 (Ch2) on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 04:17 pm: Edit
I got waitlisted at Swarthmore today. I'm not sure if I'm going to do anything yet. I wasn't particularly passionate about the school and I never got a chance to visit it. I think I would have liked it there, but I will fit in and have a good time at other places, too. I am happy with the school I am accepted at (Grinnell).
Haha, Tri N, I like that attitude.

So far accepted at 5, waitlisted at 1 (WUSTL) and rejected at 1.
By Explicit (Explicit) on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 04:27 pm: Edit
I got "reserve" listed at Mary Washington-- for Spring.
It was a reach, but I still am truly interested. The letter said that I am encouraged to send additional grade repots, standardized test scores, and other academic information to be considered.
Does this mean I should take SAT/SAT II's again? What do they mean my "other academic information"?
I know it's a long shot, but I'm still gonna give it a try. Anything else I should do?
By Tri_N (Tri_N) on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 04:28 pm: Edit
Leener, do you want my waitlist card? I'll gladly send it off you if you really want to go to Northwestern.

Waitlisted at Haverford and Swarthmore(my top choice)
Wow, I definitely don't want to send them my additional grades...what do you guys think about writing them a letter and including photos of what i'm up to right now (god, i just want this process to be OVER WITH!)? Or should i just wait it out?
How does the waitlist process work? After they hear back from the admitted people, do they look through all the waitlist applications?
By Zuesviolin (Zuesviolin) on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 05:07 pm: Edit
Waitlisted at Smith, in at Brandeis (mid-year), in at U of Minnesota Twin Cities, rejected at Macalester. Still waiting on four others (Scripps, Mount Holyoke, Grinnell, Barnard). What should I do to let Smith know that I'm truly interested?
By Candi1657 (Candi1657) on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 05:13 pm: Edit
Zuesviolin,
Have you checked the mail? My acceptance from Barnard came today and I know a few came for people yesterday.
By Zuesviolin (Zuesviolin) on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 05:17 pm: Edit
I checked. No (college) mail today in the Midwest. I found out Smith online, which was probably a good thing, because I know that after getting a small envelope I would've been mighty disappointed. Not expecting an acceptance from Barnard or Grinnell, hoping for MHC or Scripps.

Lol, thanks for the offer Tri N, but I don't want to go to Northwestern THAT much. I'm just upset b/c it was my first rejection...should've expected it though b/c I spent like a day on the application so my short answers/long essay weren't very good.

I've been waitlisted at a bunch of schools my counselors and advisers said I would and should get into. Wait listed at Kenyon & Northeastern.
Funny, but I was accepted to Grinnell, URochester, Yale, Brown, etc...
The wait list truly confused me. I was thinking that since I used similar essays and recs, I would be a weak candidate for my other schools.
I went away to the WA coast this past weekend, hoping to figure out what to do. When I got back today, I recieved good news from Grinnell and Wheaton. I thought I would be cursed.
I have yet to hear from Wesleyan & Emerson, but the Grinnell acceptance (along with the others) have given me some breathing room.

I recommend to everyone, that if you're waitlisted, and you know that the waitlisting school(s) is not your first choice, request to be removed. This helps the University as well as others who are waitlisted, and may want to go to that school badly. I was waitlisted to Stanford, accepted to Cornell, Northwestern, GA Tech and denied to MIT. Stanford is my first choice, so i'll have to commit to Cornell probably and wait until late May to hear from Stanford. Good luck to everyone

waitlisted at NYU Stern and WUSTL
i really wanna go to NYU...
in the letter they say they waitlisted 950 students last year and 190 were offered admission.
should i call 'em or send 'em another essay or, better say, what can i do now to increase my chances?

at least NYU tells you how many they waitlisted, I got waitlisted at Cooper and they wont tell you any information.
Anyone know of anything I can do to increase my chances of getting into Cooper?
