I don't mean to stir up a boiling conversation or anything, but I don't see why it's so hard to comprehend that some guy gets accepted to Harvard or some Ivy with a low SAT score.
Scenario:
You're a private school college admissions officer and you're given a student who is as dumb as a nail (no offense intended) or with a low SAT score.. let's say 800? However, he's one of the nation's best point guard and he can shoot like his life depended on it. Would you accepted him? I would in a heartbeat - if he has a clean record.
I think talent is what they are looking for.

There is only controversey with low SAT scores when students are accepted without alterior motives - if a 1200, non-athelete, otherwise average student is accepted over a 1520 super-student, then there is controversy
