I am a 93 Average, 1510 (SAT) with excellent recomendations and extracurriculars, published in English Reviewbooks who got waitlisted from Wash U today. It's a bit disheartening, can somebody explain if my waitlisted seems logical? Do I even have a slice at getting in? I thought that I had a chance at some of the Ivys I applied to before getting this letter.

a lot of people got waitlisted in wash u, including me. i really tink wash u didn't reject anyone, they waitlisted everyone who didn't make it instead or something...

Rejected me...1490,800,770,770,740,3.3/4.0 UW at competitive magnet-like school. I'm sure 3.3 got me out of the weighting list.

1590/800/800/780 SAT/writing/math IIC/physics scores, 3.9 GPA, volunteer hours in the mid hundreds, club presidencies, national merit, engineering awards, etc...wait listed. Apparently this was a very good year to be the Wash U committee and a very bad year to be an applicant.

In at U Chicago. Waiting on Pomona, Yale, Stanford, Reed, BU (trustee scholarship). Hometown U of Arizona offered auto admit plus huge check each year with National Merit. Waiting for April eagerly, and trying to psychoanalyze Wash U like almost everyone.

I actually read somewhere that Wash U accepts 60% of its waitlist, so there is hope.
|By Dg5052 (Dg5052) on Monday, March 22, 2004 - 10:03 pm: Edit|
I have to disagree with filmchick. My S is a freshman at Wash U, and last year they took NO ONE off the waitlist. They had about 80 more kids than they expected actually accept their admission offer.
I'm only saying this because it's not good to give people false hope.

They sometimes waitlist people who they think are using their school as a safety.

Hang in there. This year was especially bad for Wash U applicants. I'm sure you'll do great in the admissions process. Stats are phenomenal.
But I must admit, this does give me a glimmer of hope for UPenn, Columbia, Harvard, and Yale.
Best of luck! 7 days until April 1! aaaah lol

Spacechic20 --- You have really good stats! Where else did you apply ... I think we applied to all of the same places ... B/c like you, I applied to Wash U. and also Penn, Columbia, Harvard, and Yale (deferred EA) ...
To everyone who was waitlisted --- This year seems to have been an awful year to apply to Wash. U. --- Just go to the Wash U. Boards and you can read about all of these amazing people who were waitlisted --- it's incredible ... Then again, it seems that others who were amazing got in of course ... I guess they just had to draw the line somewhere, and make really picky decisions .. Good Luck to all and I am sure you all will get into other schools that are just as prestigious as Wash U.

Emory- In with Emory Scholars
GW (applied just because dad went there... kinda feel bad about that now)
I'm really nervous! Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

|By Medusa2003 (Medusa2003) on Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 09:10 am: Edit|
Washington University receives nearly 20,000 applications for roughly 1,500 spaces in the freshman class. Lots of great applicants get waitlisted. I've seen information on various boards showing that students who are waitlisted at Washington U. do get admitted to schools like Cornell, the University of Chicago, Dartmouth, Rice, Emory, Carleton, etc and sometimes even Harvard, Yale, or Princeton. Stats, extracurriculars, demonstrated interest, and lots of other factors are part of the admission decision. Much of it is a crap shoot.
