Hey, I just want to know how many of you in here are transfer students still waiting for the UC decisions? I know that for UCLA and Berkeley, the decision date for us transfers is April 30-May 1.
The wait is soo long!!! Also, where did you apply to as a transfer? Me, I applied to ucla and berkeley.
By Sdgirl (Sdgirl) on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 02:33 am: Edit
i'm still waiting too. i'll find out about uci and ucsb sometime in mid- march. ucsd and ucla probably late april. it's not fair they make transfer students wait longer. i really want to go to ucsb. i heard it's really nice.

I'm also transferring next year. I applied to Berkeley, UCLA and UCSB (as well as USC and CSU Fullerton). My first choice is USC and if you think the UC decisions are late... I don't think I hear from USC til LATE June. where do you gusy go to school now? (I"m at Long Beach City College)
By Sardonia (Sardonia) on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 03:18 am: Edit
Hello fellow transfer students.
I applied to UCI, UCSB, Berkeley, UCLA, USC and a couple of other places for film & english studies.
I was recently accepted to UCI and expect to be accepted to UCSB. It is not known if I will be accepted to Berk or UCLA as they competition is stratospheric, even for us transfers. I do imagine that I have a good chance, though.
USC asked for my transcripts; I was supposed to have sent them months ago but thought they would ask for them after I was accepted! Obviously I was wrong. So, I sent the transcripts and the admissions officer on the phone said I might hear by May or late June.
It is frightening not knowing where you are going to be accepted, let alone how much financial aid you might receive. In my case, if I don't receive enough financial aid, I might not be able to attend.
We shall see, however.
Good luck to the rest of you!

I've been waiting for UCI since the beginning of may, but i have this feeling that it's gonna come out in april. i hate the waiting.. applied to UCI, UCLA, and UCSD. I'm in the UCLA TAP, my first choice
By Manda213 (Manda213) on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 02:28 pm: Edit
I applied to UCI and UCLA as an English major; I was accepted at UCI last week. I'd prefer going to UCLA. Late April can't come soon enough.

I hope to transfer to UCLA or Berkeley from UNC, in a few years
.... just wondering, what are you all's college GPA's? Do you have involvement/jobs anything?
By Domino (Domino) on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 03:44 pm: Edit
Transfer students who got into USC: Which major did you get into? What was your CC GPA? Any other useful information would be appreciated.
By Yackityack (Yackityack) on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 06:43 pm: Edit
Slayer i know this is kind of extreme--but you could go to a CA Community College and with your uw HS gpa of 4.0 (right?) i think youd be very successful and have an excellent shot at transfering to CAL or UCLA. The only drawback is of course that you have to be at a CC which dont relaly have the campus feeling but if you you want to go to those UCs enough you could do it. Also, besides being way easier to transfer from, getting residency in CA before going to UCs would save you thosands and thousands and thousands of dollars. Just a thought.
UNC is a great school anyway. Good Luck!!

Hi,
Anyone know if uci hasnt posted my acceptance yet if its a bad sign? I am a cc student in california (3.6 gpa/igetc certified/A.A/most assist.org done, missing one course)Any information on my chances and or scholarship proccesses would be appreciated. I have applied to UCI,UCr,UCLA,UCB. I was accepted to UCR havent heard from the rest.
By Chemyst (Chemyst) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 03:07 am: Edit
At my CC which sort of feeds into UCB, the median GPA is 3.7-3.9......... good luck to you!

Mocksimus: UCI's online site flagged me for acceptance two days before notifications were supposed to be made. In contrast, UCSB started to notify transfers on Wednesday and the online notification site says "decision pending" for me. I wouldn't try to deeply analyze the reasons why one person might get notified on X day rather than Y.
Based on your stats you have a good shot at every UC save for UCLA and Berkeley. If you took part in an honors program and happened to have racked up a generous portion of community service hours as well as partipated in clubs/honors socities, then you have a very good chance for UCLA and Berk.
This long wait toughens the skin. I wish they would let us know sooner.
Berk is my dream school, and I just wanna knoa
By Sardonia (Sardonia) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 03:23 am: Edit
Slayer: I work about twenty hours a week, have about a 3.7 gpa, have created my own software and short films; further, I am a member of PTK, AGS, and completed the honors program at the school.
I was a programmer in a former life. I am now 29 years old, therefore I am classified as a reentry student. The fact that I had a previous 'career' of sorts and come from a family with no previous college experience (which is thus a disadvantage of sorts) might very well be my hook into Berk. But we shall see.
I am going to wager that the average transfer student to Berkeley has similar stats (but are far younger), and the average transfer to UCLA might be tad less.
By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 03:38 am: Edit
Sardonia,
Yea I love how berkeley makes us wait the longest =(. As far as my community service i did volunteer work a few hours every week (volunteer softball coach for kids 1 year 6 hours a week, beach clean ups 4 years monthly group stuff, race for the cure 1 time ) I didnt do honors but i did stupid crap that looks good for poli sci majors (police ride alongs to "immerse myself" in real life application of my major) but I dunno we shall see, I am hoping poli sci my be a bit easier to get into. good luck to you
By Valinor84 (Valinor84) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 11:01 am: Edit
Man the wait is killing me!I can't believe UCR and UCI haven't decided my fate yet, the only school i've heard back from is UCD.
By Manda213 (Manda213) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 12:08 pm: Edit
To answer stats questions...I have a 3.7 gpa, am a "returning student," meaning I pretty much sucked when I first started college at 18 but now, at 24, am doing fine, I'll be finished with all my lower-division major classes once the Spring's over, my IGETC's done, and I work full-time while going to school full-time (in the evenings/internet classes)! I also fit in some community service work with animal shelters when I have time. No special programs, however. I was accepted to UCI this past Sunday. Mocksimus, I think you have a good chance...Slayer, if you want to go the CC route before transferring, I suggest you check out Santa Monica College, which is where I attend. They have the highest transfer rate to UCLA and USC of CC transfer students (I think).
By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 02:05 pm: Edit
Manda213,
I am pretty much in your same boat 22 here and i sucked at 18 but i retook any course i bombed with an A. I hope the schools take into account our "maturing" and ability to get such high gpa`s even after first failures. If you dont mind me asking where else did you apply? (ucsd, ucb, ucla, uci, ucr) here
good luck
By Manda213 (Manda213) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 04:38 pm: Edit
I have eight W's and a D and F on my early college record! I retook most of them, however, with mostly A's, some B's. UC's seem to like considering a great contrast between early college records with more current ones. I took a big risk by only applying to UCI and UCLA - and UCLA is the one I truly would love to attend. But, at least one (UCI) wants me, at this point. A bit of relief!
By Manda213 (Manda213) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 04:42 pm: Edit
Mocksimus...I don't really agree with Sardonia that having a 3.6 makes you a not-so-good candidate for UCLA. Most of the UCLA transfer applicants I've talked to boast barely having a 3.3 or 3.4. The average GPA of transfer applicants admitted at UCLA is 3.5. However, that could vary, depending on your major. I'm not sure how competitive Poli Sci is at UCLA. I, for one, chose the not-so-grand (and non-competitive) major of English, so that gives me a better chance of getting in.
By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 04:46 pm: Edit
Manda,
Yea i was thinking 3.6 was a bit high my friend also english major was a 3.2 accepted to UCLA and another 3.1 accepted to Berkeley (poli sci major) but she had to have be an abnormality
By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 04:47 pm: Edit
also if you dont mind me asking what CC are you at? these transfers i mentioned and my CC is IVC/Saddleback
By Manda213 (Manda213) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 05:52 pm: Edit
I'm at Santa Monica College...which might be another helpful factor, since it has a good rep. But so does Saddleback. I wouldn't worry so much, you'll have no problem getting into at least one very good UC. What's your preference out of those where you applied?
By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 06:13 pm: Edit
I would most like to go to UCSD for the campus or UCI its near my house but either way I would be happy. I applied to UCLA and UCB jsut to see what happens =P, I would not consider UCLA if accepted however berkeley I would consider.( why i dont like UCLA i dont really know i guess it makes me think of frat parties and stuff)
By Coffeeshopgirl (Coffeeshopgirl) on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 07:54 pm: Edit
"...UCSB started to notify transfers on Wednesday and the online notification site says "decision pending" for me..."
Transfers started recieving notifications already?? ACK< i still have "decision pending" on my online status at Santa Barbara. I know i shouldn't fret, but I'm getting a little worried. From my experience in high school, all the late notifications were rejections.
...i'm too cynical.

u think a 3.4 with TAP program with get me into business econ at UCLA?
By Alpinesun (Alpinesun) on Monday, March 22, 2004 - 07:57 pm: Edit
seriously, UCI is LAGGING. I don't understand why some of you got decisions so early. My friend with a 3.95gpa has yet to receive a decision also.
Raptier123: I think admission into econ is really competitive and depends a lot on your major prep work
By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Monday, March 22, 2004 - 09:18 pm: Edit
man uci is lagging ucsd is lagging i found out i got into UCR which doesnt matter arghhhhhh why wont any "important" uc`s post

Do you still have to send in SAT I & II scores to UC schools if you have alot of college credits??
By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Monday, March 22, 2004 - 10:19 pm: Edit
timmy,
if you have over 60 units ( junior transfer from a community college) you are no longer required to show sat or h.s grades. This does not affect you poorly either which rocks you do however have to show proof of h.s graduation.
By Timmy19th (Timmy19th) on Monday, March 22, 2004 - 10:42 pm: Edit
What if I've got 60 units from a regular (non community) college?
By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Monday, March 22, 2004 - 10:59 pm: Edit
no, you would be fine pretty much the UC system takes 60 units and gpa in those units as the "almighty" factor, however it is easier to match courses from a cc to a uc than say a state school to a uc so you may loose a few units. They do however give all attention first to the community college transfers once they go through them they then mvoe onto other university transfers

my fourth semester at a CC.. applying to UCI, UCLA, and UCSD for this fall.
(I left UCD after 2 quarters)
By Manda213 (Manda213) on Thursday, March 25, 2004 - 05:19 pm: Edit
timmy19th, I don't think you need to report SAT scores, but I do believe you will have to submit high school records if you are to prove your foreign language courses that way - that is, if you didn't finish the requirement at community college.
So you're an English major too, sardonia?
By Manda213 (Manda213) on Thursday, March 25, 2004 - 05:23 pm: Edit
sardonia: I think I asked you this somewhere else but I don't think you answered. On the UCI page where you're told you've been admitted, does it say something like, "you have been admitted with conditions"? It says that on mine, as well as saying I'd get a formal letter "specifying the terms of your provisional admission" shortly, which I have yet to receive. Have any idea what this means?
By Sardonia (Sardonia) on Thursday, March 25, 2004 - 05:45 pm: Edit
manda123: I have no idea what that means. My UCI acceptance page just says: "congrats, you have been accepted" and gives me an option to decline admission, etc.
You might want to give UCI a phone call and inquire further about the admitted with conditions 'conditions'. I wonder what those conditions could be?
By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Thursday, March 25, 2004 - 07:54 pm: Edit
I'm a 3.2 GPA. That's the only time I'm admitting that.
I'm a CCC transfer, I applied to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD and UCLA under Political Science with an alternate Philosophy, except Berkeley where I applied for Philosophy.
I was recently accepted to UCD and waiting on UCSD, UCLA and UCB.
UCSD should let me know soon. Happy days.

this is off their website regarding gpa
50th eprcentile 3.34
3.6-4.0 = 27 percent in this range
3.3-3.59 = 28 percent in this gpa range
3.0-3.29 = 29 percent within this range
2.70-2.99 = 12 percent in this range
lower than 2.69 = 4 percent in this range

really detailed stats on the link above

mocksimus, do you know of any detailed stats like the ones you gave above, but for ucla??
By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 - 02:10 pm: Edit
manda,
Nope sorry ucsd has much better information regarding their transfer process. I find ucla and cal to be a bit "snotty" with their release of information regarding gpa and transferring.
