Yeah, I might be appealing too, my sister just graduated from there and Santa Barbara is like a second home to me. But then again, I think everything happens for a reason and perhaps I was destined to go down to San Diego (as they auctually have a business program) and i'd like to work in the San Diego area. Although if Irvine accepts me, i'll have some decisions to be making.

2) how many total students and how many freshman are in the film program at UCSB?

By Rowan (Rowan) on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 - 08:13 pm: Edit
Pre means that you aren't an official part of the major, but you will (probably) get the same advising services. You will be a pre-major until you complete the prerequisites required for you to take their upper division courses -- and then you'll be a Computer Engineering major. No worries about that.
Princess Banana, UCSD decisions are "not yet finalized" (according to the site), but the rumour is that they'll be out on the 20th (which is... a Saturday?).

JOHNATHANWEET - from what I've read, the UCSB film program doesn't really focus on the production aspect. My friend went to UCSC for film and he hated it, graduated in three years just to get out of there. He said since it's an "experimental" school ... the students get lazy and do whatever and the teachers all expect the students to make films according to what they want .. i got into both schools but I'm not thrilled for either

UCSB's film studies program is strictly film studies... basically analyzing films... i heard that you don't get to do much production
By Jonathantweet (Jonathantweet) on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 - 11:05 pm: Edit
yeah i know it is film studies, not film production. But UCSB is a lot better from UCSC in my opinion. I toured the campus last summer and liked it, especially the bike aspect. Plus it isn't my only option, but thanks for the heads up anyways. It's always good to get as many perspectives as possible.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG i cannot believe i made it in!!!!!!!!
Im going to my DREAM school!!!!
I was having a heart attack seeing all of the rejected people's stats...so releived when i looked through my fingers (i was crouched in the chair with my hands over my face as it was loading) and it said "congratulations, ur admitted"
Anyone else going to the open house on april 3? i hope they let me bring my guide puppy in training..
another thing-why dont people say they "werent let in"? "rejected" seems so harsh!
By Highschoolda (Highschoolda) on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 - 12:25 am: Edit
Rejected also rejected from UCLA. My major was bio, i dunno if that is what hurt me.
UCSD and UCI remaining.
If not i hear i might get letters from UC that i didn't apply to which is UCD, UCR, UCSC.
Tough break for me.

UCSB's admitting thing takes out all the fun.
At the top, in the toolbar actually, you see "admitted" before you even get to the site.
oh well

I'd rather know right away, personally... Hehe.
But this girl today said that she was planning on waiting for the snail mail acceptance letter to come so she could have a party right there on the sidewalk at the mailbox when she gets the news. She didn't want to be spoiled by the website.
I got in, though. Yay.

Does anyone know what UCSB's acceptance rate was for this year?
By Clashkev (Clashkev) on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 - 12:58 am: Edit
Well, the letter says that: "Nearly 37,000 students applied for admission for an entering class of 3,950."
Lets say that they tripled the number of acceptance letters, just to make sure that every spot would be filled.
3950 x 3 = 11850
11850/37000 = about 32%. I dont know how many extra letters they sent around, I thought I was being generous to mutiply it by three. So, about a third or less got in.

although i doubt ill end up at either (i got into UWash already which I like more), i would almost defnitely go to davis engineering before sb's. ucsb's engineering really isnt that great (comparably less major choices), and davis is more known for its sciences.
