A friend of mine, more than qualified it seems, for UCLA was somehow rejected. I've heard that appeals can be successful in these kind of situations? Is this true? What exactly goes into an appeal, as in, how would you go about doing it? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry to disappoint you guys. But there isn't quite an appeal process. If once a decision is made, it's final, meaning no argument on that. Of course there are some cases only limited to controversial rejection reasons such as when a student feels that the decision was biased with unjust racial things. You should have heard of the famous Yale case, where an African american student was identified as "white," and later on the admission was granted to him after the appeal process. A person was good enough for a certain college and she/he didn't get in. how the hell are you gonna make an argument about it? SAT score, GPA, EC, and etc? there could be additional factor the institution took into consideration. Sorry but it's final.

umm its actually not final
i know people that have successfully appealed and it was not for any racial reason. he was highly qualified, blah blah blah, he got into berkeley and appealed ucla out of spite without any intention of attending and he got in....

As I posted in another thread, there *is* an appeal process and directions are on the Admissions web page. The appeal must be based on material that was not present in your original application; the "I'm sad and I really really really want to go to UCLA" gambit will not work. I'm told that "a few" get in to UCLA via appeal every year, so it's not impossible. Unlikely, yes; impossible, no.

Thedad... Do you think the following give me enough reason to appeal?...

Senior GPA = 4.2W (up A LOT)

I left out 1 college class (im taking 3) from the application because i was unsure if i was going to be allowed to take it... local CC was not going to do the bridge program and finally decided to do it.

I got a research internship

My January SAT (latest considered was december) went up to 1480 from a 1310 which i got last year.

I know that I SHOULD appeal because some crap changed, but i just wanted to see if you feel as though this is enough to reverse the decision.

cuvlovv, you should definately appeal, but from what I have seen before, was your gpa 3.3? If it is, this may be the factor that may negate you the acceptance. BUT YOU SHOULD DEFINATELY APPEAL WITH THE IMPROVEMENTS YOU HAVE JUST LISTED. GOOD LUCK MAN, SAY HIGH TO FLYGUY LMAO

By Araesova (Araesova) on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 04:15 am: Edit

lol my bad, ****HI**** not **HIGH**

By Culovv (Culovv) on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 04:23 am: Edit

hahahahahaha.... everyone knows flyguy!

yea man, my gpa killed me... actually it was just a crappy sophomore year and bad grades in theology classes (required...)

Culovv, I think it's worth a shot. The SAT scores are squishy...they really are past the deadline but they *are* new info. So is the third college course and the research internship. Fwiw, my D may have been screwed on the January SAT thing, too, with Stanford but at least Stanford has a more generous "if they get here before we review her file we'll look at them" stance. [She had the flu in December and had to push back to January; composite went up 100 points.] It's unfortunate that the UC's have an earlier SAT deadline than many schools. Karma.

I can't believe dis moi got reject from ucla after getting accepted to harvard, and so many other selective colleges.

By Lucygoosey (Lucygoosey) on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 05:13 pm: Edit

if u got into harvard what are you bitching about

By Hnbui (Hnbui) on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 05:58 pm: Edit

Okay, you obviously don't know who dis-moi is. So quit your bitch. I was simply stating that he was accepted into harvard but was rejected from ucla. Maybe you should shut your mouth instead, and think before you post next time.
