Is it possible so they arrange it with each other so a candidate only gets into one university or one and not an other to enable max enrollment of the best candidates.
It seems that they Universities are linked via a database and was just wondering if they had the power to say admit you into Riverside, but not UCSC, etc.
Or Berkeley, and not LA.
Anyone think this is possible?
If it was, wouldn't be illegal since we didn't give them permission to share our data w/ other UC campuses...

no it is not true. i have confirmed this many times and each university individually reviews each application with it's respective majors.
they would probably share some type of database, but they don't specifically say "hey this guy is really good, let's put him in UCSD and then some other UC's but not LA and Berkeley."
if that's what you meant.

Cool. So they can't see which other UCs you apply to?

i bet you that they could see if they wanted to, but that wouldn't affect your application status at each individual university. don't worry i've known people who applied to all UC's and gotten into some top ones.

Actually, on the last page of the application where you checked off a bunch of boxes there is an option where you will give them permission to release your app to other UCs (ex. you applied to UCLA and Cal, got rejected, bet yet referred to Riverside). It's perfectly within their right if you checked off the box.
But I don't think they talk to e/o if that's what you're saying.
