My son is debating either to go to UCI or UCD. Which you think is better? His major is Civil Engineering

I'd go to Davis for Civil Engineering. I think Davis is more respected.

Irvine is much more respected for engineering/math and overall

Au contraire Ragingfire. Davis is known to have some of the best math and science. I am unsure about engineering though. Overall, the two are almost equal in respect, but I would say that Davis is higher. US News ranks Davis 43 and Irvine 46. I know that is a pointless number though. My sister is a sophomore math major at Davis, and she absolutely loves it.

My daughter is loving her experience at UCI. This is her first year.

I don't have any rankings in front of me, but working from memory I seem to recall that UCD was ranked a little higher than UCI in engineering. I don't recall either way about math.

But both are excellent schools and similarly ranked in most subjects, so on that basis I'd choose between them based on college experience rather than rankings. Davis is a big university in a small town in a rural area - about an hour west of the the Sierra ski slopes and an hour east of the bright lights of the Bay Area. Irvine is a big university in a huge suburban area. It's an easy drive to the beach.

You can't got wrong with either one. Just choose which one appeals to you more.
