Okay. You see I am the kind of student who excels in academics at school, (GPA, activities, classes, you know the jist). But you see my biggest problem is standardized testing. I am WAY below average on the SAT, SAT II, PSAT, (kinda high on ACT 27, 28 or so). To put it all together, what chance do I have to get into a good college, say University of Michigan or U of Chicago or something.
SAT: 1050-1150
ACT: 27-30
GPA: 3.9 cummlative, 4.1-4.5 semesters
AP English Literature
AP Language and Comp
AP US Government
AP Comparative Gov
AP Bio
AP German. No AP Exam scores yet for all
Hon Math II, III, + hon analysis/calculus
Hon Chem
Hon Physics
Hon German II, III
SAT II writing + possible Chem and bio, no scores yet.
Activities: NHS, Ambassadors society, Track, Football, German club, Japanese Club, Science club, Engineering club, film society, all more than 2 yrs of involvement besides football
Summer Activities: spent summer at Oxford University for an academic camp, sat prep there. Gettin a job this summer, fresh yr did summer school work to relieve classes the following yr
Now thats not it. Theres a ton more service and activities and classes and academic stuff. Theres more going on next yr senior yr 2. Im just wondering what are my chances if i had to apply now at the end of Junior yr. Thanks

hello? c'mon guys i need something! do I even have any chances to go to something like Miami of Ohio or John Carrol or Oberlin (these are all in the state of ohio where I live). What if i raise my SAT score to umm...an 1180-1220 and my ACT to a 30-32. You see? My grades in school are all fine, but my SATS AHH THEY SUCK!

a 30-32 ACT is really high its like a 1340-1400 SAT...so its you could to that then yeah you'd have a shot a Michigan or Chicago. You probably won't get into those school w a standardized test score less than 1250 (i mean it could happen its just not likely) unless you have some great "hook" like national awards and such...

You know that you can take your SAT's off your transcript and just send your ACT's. Your ACT's are up there with Michigan(maybe not Chicago). Remember to look well-rounded and have an unweighted 4.0+. Also, look at how Michigan recalculates your GPA. A lot of people think that they have a great GPA like a 4.6, but the only reason is because they get extra points for honors. Most colleges give a few points for AP's, like a 4.5 or something) and grade everything else on a 4.0 scale. Remember that test scores are important and everything, but it is 2 to 1 to sat in Mich.

o crap thats not cool, my school is on a frickin 13 pt weighted system!!!!! that means my 3.9 cummulative or 4.4 semesters really is like a 2.7 unweighted, omg that majorly sux crap. id probably rank like 45/208 which would put in probably top 25%.

Michigan had become a bunch of softies (not that I don't wuv them!) but check out their new thing about "evaluating special circumstance, background, etc..."
To give you some backup, I got in in 2001, I had a 3.7-3.8is GPA unweighted, and a 27 composite ACT. They love diversity and personality, I'm not sure how important test scores are to them, but I'd definetely guess that your GPA would cause them to overlook yours, even if they were bad, which they are not! Good luck!

Some very good schools don't require the SAT 1 for admission - Bowdoin and Bates come to mind. From what some of the posts on this board indicate, some schools look at more of the whole person, not just the SAT or ACT - as Blue Angel notes. For schools that do accept the ACT, try to send that. Also, with the rest of your credentials, you could certainly apply to schools where your SAT's fall in the lower quartile - but at least in this respect, they will be reaches. Apply where you want - just make sure you've got some nice safeties.

Don't you all just hate the SAT, lol? Im workin on a 30-33 ACT and an 1100-1200 SAT. You see U of Michigan was my #1 college that i always wanted to attend, but Miami of Ohio is another prospect i guess. I'm an Asian male, so i dunno if the whole minority thing will work out for me cause in some schools Asians arent considered minorities for some reason. Actually am i even asia? lol. I call myself asian cause im fron the indian subcontinent. Im not middle eastern but im also not oriental.
