I applied to Miami University in Ohio. I know virtually nothing about it, never taken a campus tour, and live halfway across the country. Does any know anything about it? Is it known for outstanding academics? I have a 3.4 GPA and a 1290 SAT. Am I in the running? Let me know what ya think.

Beautiful campus, not diversed whatsoever, academically decent school nowhere near excellent and if you come from out of state it's pretty challenging but you have a good chance.

I'll step in here as an alum of Miami....1981...BUT...I can offer you a bit of info. Miami has a beautiful campus....we used to call it the "red brick wonderland" because all of the buildings are red brick. It's 40-ish minutes from downtown Cincinnati and there's actually quite a lot to do there. Oxford exists because of the University but it's grown a LOT since I was there. Miami has a strong business department. What do you think your major will be? I had a great 4 years at Miami....graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Felt safe the whole time I was there. Felt challenged. There's a very strong Greek population there but if you're not into the sorority/fraternity world, you'll survive. I did! Any more questions...ask away!

I have a friend or two that goes there.....basically, its a lot of preppy rich white people. Not saying anything against them, but the local newspaper published an article saying the avg income was like 200,000 a yr, which is a lot for a school like that. Decent academics, tons of parties. Massive, school sponsored parties for underclassman. So if you like to drink, you're fine......if not, I'd look somewhere else

Fine for the right person--white conservative semi-preppie with focus on a solid pre-professional education. Nice campus as advertised but you won't be going to Cinci too often to party.

hey musicalthtrmom, my parents went to miami c/o 1980, and they absolutely loved it...another thing about miami...a lot of the students get married to other students (they had an article on that recently)...when i visited i loved how beautiful the campus is...and those cinnamon things at tuffy's are soooo good!

I am not sure what I want to major in but I am open to studying and am very interested in physiology, history, and economics. I definitly want to go on to Grad School and want an undergraduate school that will give me an oportunity to go to a top notch grad school. Will U of Miami prepare me for going to an Ivy grad school? Also I am from California... will I fit in?

You'd be crazy to come to Ohio. I mean people in cali are more open minded while the majority of people in ohio are well, conservative. I've lived in several states and countries and now am residing in cincinnati and i find it and this entire region awful. besides if you like some diversity, Miami's not the place to find it.

Would I really be crazy to go to this school? I've been researching it over the past couple days, and I have heard a lot of really good things about it. I haven't gotten in anywhere yet but I figure I will get in to Miami (I was recruted because nobody from my area goes), and Boulder, and maybe UC Santa Cruz. From my research I have concluded that Miami has the best academic repuation out of these schools. Also I am not really the partier type who has to go out and drink. I am looking for strong academics and a good reputation by graduate schools. Will I be disapointed. Please let me know. My E-mail is snowboarder195@yahoo.com. I would appreciate any and all comments/sugestions. Thanks! -Evan
