Having went through this whole admission thing twice, I getting little bit of apathetic and feeling hopeless of the allusive "thick envelope".

In april 2003, I received six rejections straight, burned the first one, tore the second and tossed the third one into trash box. The last three were kept intact, in my rejection letters collection. I kinda expect them to be "thin evelopes". sigh

I have no idea how many rejections I will receive in april 2004, six, twelve, twenty, who knows. But I did realized from my experience last year, rejection is not the end of the world! It doens't matter that much what the result is. Enjoy what you do, what you love, enjoy our 2004.

end of my rant

Amylase... where did you apply? how did you spend the year? Did you have any safeties? How would you rate your essays?

Amylase, you have excellent, excellent credentials. But you are very young yet. Hopefully you will get into one of your schools, but if you do not, consider spending the year doing a community service project either in your country or here. Academically, I do not think you can really bump up your stats. An area I see that can really develope you as a person is spending time with those much less fortunate. I know a young lady without your profile who did this after being unhappy with her college choices, and that year really developed her into a lovely, mature person, with a whole new perspective on life. IT came through on the applications, as she did quite well the second time around. But more importantly, she had grown quite a bit as a person, a was confident and not at all desperate as she went through the process the second time. She knew better what she wanted and what was important and it really shined through her entire demeanor. Do consider something like this.

It's "elusive" thick envelope, I believe, Amylase. LOL

I believe that this year will prove much different for you, homey. Just look at the evidence: your SATs are now almost supernatural (1580), and you have the valuable experience of having done it before.

However, you most likely won't get a sniff of acceptance or rejection until April, so just relax, man! Enjoy the freedom coursing through your veins like sweet, sweet laudanum. Mods, feel free to cross out the drug reference. God knows how busy we'll be when we have to decide which college to matriculate to.
