my eyebrow's pierced, not in a scary overly-punk way, but in a cute, tasteful (well as tasteful as piercings can be) way. should i leave it in for interviews or take it out? its kinda of a pain to take it out, so i'd rather leave it in.

Take it out, definitely.

Depends -- if it's a real liberal crazy art school etc, leave it in. If it's anything even SLIGHTLY conservative, take it out. A lot of people doing the interviews are parents and trust me, they don't like those kinds of things.

haha... I feel your pain. I normally have platinum-bleached spiked hair, but I'm going to have to wear it down and black to look nice and clean hehe.

And yeah, I used to have an eyebrow piercing... and I know how much of a pain (literally) it is to put in/take out... Make sure to get one of those clear plastic filler things though, because eyebrow piercings tend to heal quickly...

finally, someone who knows the pain! most people are like yea, just pop it right out. luckily my hair isnt dyed so i dont have to deal with that
but yea i guess i have to go out and buy one of those clear retainer things :(

Take it off, even for crazy liberal arts college (It's a suggestion from a former assistant director of admissions at Dartmouth; from her book.) Remove excessive piercings and jewellery.

>>groan, ok i guess ill be on the safe side and leave it out...even berkeley?<<

You could probably leave it in for Berkeley, except that Berkeley doesn't do interviews. For all other schools take it out.

I would take it out, just to be safe. Yes, it hurts, but it doesnt hurt as much as missing out on getting into a school you really want to attend.

LEAVE IT IN!!! Colleges legally cannot discriminate based on appearance.

By Muzicgal04 (Muzicgal04) on Friday, January 02, 2004 - 02:24 pm: Edit

No, they cant legally....but that doesnt mean they wont. And do you want to risk that?

By Bitz (Bitz) on Friday, January 02, 2004 - 02:45 pm: Edit

Clickspring - The way the laws are written, a college cannot discriminate based on height, wieght, skin color, gender, age, or sexual orientation. Body piercings have never, and most likely will never, be protected under discrimination laws. It is a shame that most people take eyebrow (or nose, lip, etc.) piercings to be a sign of a "punk" attitude, but this really isn't the best place to rebel (with so much at stake and rather little to gain). A lot of older individuals see extra piercings to be equivalent to coming to an interview with you pants hanging down to your knees (or other poor clothing choices for interviews).

End result, take it out - it is worth the physical pain to preserve a chance at your top choice college.
