By Argilospsychi (Argilospsychi) on Thursday, January 01, 2004 - 10:19 pm: Edit

So I decide last minute that I actually do want to apply to Brown. I have all the information for the application, etc. The problem is that I just got back from a trip today (Jan 1), which is the final postmark deadline. However, every post office or mail company is closed!!!

Do I have any recourse here? Will they accept a day late application? AHHHHHHHH

Any IMMEDIATE help would be greatly appreciated

Send it with a courier, next day or second day air mail.

Tomorrow, if possible.

Why not online? If you can do it all in a few minutes online then u can still get it in.

I can fill it out online, but I can't send the recommendations and other forms until tomorrow, which would give it a 1/2 postmark instead of the required 1/1 postmark

Don't worry. They aren't going to kill you over a day.

If you do the app. online today but send the recs tom, they will probably just figure it's the school/teacher's fault.

They won't ruin you over late recommendations or school reports. Those are supposedly your teachers' responsibilities, so they're likely not to hold it against you. However, you must get *your* portion of the app done, so try to do it online..

Do they want it in by 12:00 EST or PST?

I'm from OR. it's 8:15 right now

Send it off. You can claim that your teacher recs/guidance counselor recs were lost in the mail, or something. The truth is, application office get FLOODED with a ton of apps these last few days, so they really don't care if one or two get added on late. I think they ought to still consider your application, especially if you've paid the fee, and it's complete.

What's better? :

Fill out the online app with haste tonight and send it in to meet the deadline
Fill it out with less haste tomorrow and send it in to miss the deadline by a day

I would wait until tomorrow and try to talk your friendly neighborhood post office into back dating it (puting jan 1 on the postage) they're usually willing to help

I think it's better to send it tomorrow, next day mail. It'll be on the office on Monday.
