My friend wrote a REALLY good peer review for me, for Dartmouth, and I was wondering... Could i Send it to all my schools?
I know places don't ask for one, but would an extra reccomendation hurt?
Thanks for all the help everyone.

Do it! I'm think I'm doing the same. Remember, colleges don't actually know you at all -- any extra help will always be appreciated.

Can you post it?

By Mmnnbb (Mmnnbb) on Monday, December 29, 2003 - 12:18 am: Edit

Handwritten? Just for our info, where did you get those instructions so we can double-check before it gets sent to Dart?

By Mmnnbb (Mmnnbb) on Monday, December 29, 2003 - 11:05 am: Edit

oh wait... nevermind i guess i just assumed it would have to be handwritten. I take that back

Well, I'm guessing if you're sending it to all your colleges, you'll have to type it anyway.

Do you think i should send it or forget it?

How long have you known this candidate and in what context?

I have known mmnnbb since we were both in the seventh grade together while
attending my EA in state. During most of seventh grade, we got
along but were merely acquaintances. It wasn't until the very end of the
year and over the summer that we became friends, and when the eighth grade
started the friendship only grew stronger. When we graduated from Middle
School, however, his parents decided to send him to BHS. Over these past four years, mmnnbb and I have still managed to
remain good friends and still talk weekly while visiting each other usually
around twice a month.

2. What are the first words that come to mind to describe this candidate?

Idiosyncratic, hilarious, diligent, easygoing, intelligent

3. Specific anecdote describing candidates personal and academic traits.

One of the events I remember most about Mmnnbb, and one I think shows what
kind of person he is, occurred during my freshmen year while visiting his
house over the weekend. We had just sat down to snack on some pomegranate
seeds his mother had brought out. As we started eating them, he stopped and
looked at me with a coy smile and asked, "You know those are poisonous,
right?"
"No they're not! What are you talking about? You're eating them too." I
responded. Well, then he began to tell this long, elaborate story about how
the pomegranate seeds had become poisoned. Apparently, according to his
spur-of-the-moment story, hundreds of years ago his family was tied to the
ancient dynasty ruling India and also had strong connections to the Chinese
Empire. Here, to add detail to his story, he began talking about the
different Chinese empires and emperors and how his family had used politics
and diplomacy to secure their position. Supposedly, the mmnnbbs found a
Chinese alchemist, who, using techniques hundreds of years before their
time, managed to cryogenically freeze the emperor's dog and extract a
special strand of DNA. This DNA was then modified (through the use of
enhanced enzymes) and could be used by the mmnnbb family to remove political
opponents who might try to block their ascendancy to the throne. Well, at
first they used it sparingly, removing a person here, a person there, but
eventually an overly-ambitious member injected the poison into a pomegranate
to remove another rising family who loved the fruit and ate it constantly.
Some of the seeds, however, from the infected pomegranate got thrown out and
managed to grow, and over the years have replaced all the non-poisonous
ones. Now, whoever eats a pomegranate seed will be poisoned - unless of
course you were an Indian of the mmnnbb family and have built up an immunity
against the pomegranate seed.
"Oh really," I said, "then how come I'm not dead?" He simply replied that
over the years, the poison had been diluted as it spread and that nowadays,
while still dangerous, it takes eighty or ninety years to take affect.
Needless to say, at the end of his tale, I was rolling with laughter, but I
was also impressed. On a moment's notice Mmnnbb had managed to weave this
intricate story that combined ancient Eastern history with modern scientific
practices and biology (dealing mainly with how the poison worked and how it
was extracted and duplicated from the original DNA strand.) His creativity
and attention to detail was masterful and, try as I might, I couldn't manage
to trip him up in his own story.
Now, simply telling a story over a plate of pomegranate seeds might seem
insignificant in comparison to the other things Mmnnbb does - like all the
community service he does at the hospital, or how he gets A's in school, or
how he works so well with others during group projects, or all those other
cliché, run-of-the-mill drivel you must hear all the time - but it does do
one thing I think is very important. It gives you an insight into how Mmnnbb
works, what his personality is like, how he thinks. Most importantly it
shows you his potential to achieve and grow. This, I think, is the most
important information that I can share with you. If you want to know the
rest, read his transcript - it speaks for itself. But if you want an
insight into who he is and why you should admit him into your school, then
this is what I can offer to you in support of my friend, Mmnnbb.
