The subject says it all...

As for me, Tulane has sent me a DVD tour and a music CD. Thought that was pretty spiffy, especially when some schools want me to buy (or rent?) a DVD tour from them.

A fancy pen from Texas Tech. woot woot

By Aspirer42 (Aspirer42) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 05:09 pm: Edit

Well, aside from my acceptance letter for the University of Chicago... :)

Calvin College sent me a nice poster.

The best viewbook, though, was by far Wheaton College's. So nicely-made they sent it in a cardboard box, it was spiral-bound, made of great materials, and of very high quality. Those types of things aren't supposed to influence you, but it came pretty close :D

Magnetic poetry (you know, the little magnets with words/prefixes/suffixes on them that you can arrange into goofy sentences) from American University.

By Merugo (Merugo) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 05:36 pm: Edit

reed college's viewbook was amazing. princeton's was boooooooooring. the coolest thing that i got was a letter from hampton college offering me a lot of money.

By Kewkiekid (Kewkiekid) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 05:51 pm: Edit

some woman's college sent me a baseball hat. considering they don't have baseball, i found it ironic.

i LOVED Harvey Mudd's brochures. there were others that were impressive/creative/etc, but they really stood out.

By Just_Forget_Me (Just_Forget_Me) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 06:06 pm: Edit

Other stuff I just thought of:

University of Chicago's postcards were funny (i never filled them out though).

TCU had some female student with a hot southern accent call me... sizzle!

I really liked Cornell's Big Red Book... Not exactly sure why.

By Wompyfrat (Wompyfrat) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 06:50 pm: Edit

Babson College sent me their information in a static free bag.

By Munkey113 (Munkey113) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 07:01 pm: Edit

I got a scratch and sniff postcard thing from some school...the apples smelled like apples, and the pizza smelled like pizza...

By Tellmewhy (Tellmewhy) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 07:11 pm: Edit

The Culinary School at Keiser College sent me a cookie.

A christmas card from UMich

By Gabushida (Gabushida) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 09:35 pm: Edit

Cornells Big Red Book was (and is :b) fun to go through. I really like the way its laid out.

Also, the way Dartmouth sent its app (ya, its the common app, but they sent it with viewbook stuff, etc :b) was REALLY REALLY cool.

Oh, and MIT had a fin-aid brochure that was done like one of those fortune teller things :).

Those are the ones that stick out to me.

By Chrisy (Chrisy) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 10:34 pm: Edit

i am so jealous. i got the viewbook from amherst AFTER i was accepted, and i had called 3x for it.

By Muzicgal04 (Muzicgal04) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 10:40 pm: Edit

I really like the Macalester viewbook with pics of a Maple leaf and an Ivy leaf...and under the ivy it says "ivy" and under the maple it says "not an ivy"...wrote my whole essay on that.

both bryn mawr and haverford sent me minidiscs with pics and stuff, thsoe were fun

By Useatoothbrush (Useatoothbrush) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 10:58 pm: Edit

The comic postcards Carleton sends out to National Merit Semis are funny. I especially liked the one with the kids collecting the college brochure crap and trading it.

The Louisianna College of Pharmacy sent me a huge pill bottle w/ their ad inside. Very cool.

By Invisibleman (Invisibleman) on Sunday, December 28, 2003 - 11:38 pm: Edit

Besides the Stanford acceptance letter, the Stanford windshield decal was very nice.

But BY FAR the best was Texas Tech's pen. Came in a nice box and all. Sweet!

CD from SCS at CMU. It was very well done

Big Red Book from Cornell

By Il_Neige (Il_Neige) on Monday, December 29, 2003 - 01:39 am: Edit

My favorite was a pine tree air freshener from Willamette. They had their logo put on it and something about a 3:1 tree to person ratio on campus.

hundreds of pamphlets...the smell is somewhat intoxicating...:)

I got a pill bottle from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy ... that was neat ... and I got a really nice choral/orchestral music CD from BYU.

I loved the magnets too. I also got a calender from fsu.

By Starmel (Starmel) on Monday, December 29, 2003 - 09:01 pm: Edit

My letter on behalf of all of the black students at Harvard was hilarious. They really should read those things before they send them out.

By Iluvlucy (Iluvlucy) on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 - 03:34 pm: Edit

Tulane sent me a Christmas card showing snow on the front lawn of the building. In small print it said December 25, 1962. Inside it said something like, "Merry Christmas from Tulane, where it only snows once every fifty years" I thought it was pretty funny because so many colleges try to make themselves look like a New England Ivy with shots of the campus covered in snow.

By Welshie (Welshie) on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 - 03:42 pm: Edit

The chair person of the School Relations Department sent me a personal Christmas card with a little note on it for me and wasn't sent through the school but sent in a personal envelope with hand written address, etc and I thought that was pretty cool. In addition to that, that same department sent me a CD that congratulated me on my "academic success" and hoped to offer me a glimpse of what BYU had to offer. Again it was sent personal package, not via the school mail, and I thought that was really spiffy. Other than BYU, Duke has sent me their viewbook (which is mighty thick!) and a CD with the application on it and a few virtual tours. Cornell has sent me the Big Red Book, Stanford has sent their viewbook and Boston University sent their viewbook which is really neat, probably the coolest looking one I received.

Haverford sent me a CD with stuff about the college and the US Air Force Academy sent a video tape with stuff about the place. Sadly, I've decided against applying to either of those colleges.

Got a fridge magnet from American University, not applying.

Most other schools sent me viewbooks - Yale sent one (and app) even without my asking, however, I'm not applying there...

All the good stuff comes from colleges where I'm not applying :(

By Fiza (Fiza) on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 - 04:07 pm: Edit

6 of the 8 ivys, MIT, CIT, and stanford all tried to recruit me at one point or another.

My stats suck so thats why its all suprising.

I think the fact that they sent me letters is pretty darn good. lol

The best stuff senders are by far the women's colleges. Two really prestigious womens colleges had such nice viewbooks that I actually considered applying. In general i get along much better with males, so that in itself is huge. I dont know what the coed schools are doing wrong.

By Pimpdaddy (Pimpdaddy) on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 - 04:10 pm: Edit

i got a nifty baseball hat from st. johns. Its pretty nice too.

I got a video from Wash U after I was accepted.

Yeah I got a bunch of letters from the Ivies too, but none of it was creative. I did like Cornells' little stamp things though. It really annoys me when Ivies send stuff to people with awful stats like me, hoping I'll apply so they can reject me and boost their ranking.

I liked Vanderbilt's brochure.

I would have loved to apply to Vanderbilt. So much for financial aid. :(

Ursinus sent me a handwritten card for Christmas... I celebrate Chanukah - but it still owned. The lady wrote more on it than any relative ever has.

By Winterfresh (Winterfresh) on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 - 09:15 am: Edit

I've gotten videos and letters saying if I apply by January, I'll get a guaranteed scholarship. Very tempting but, unfortunately, I'm not interested in the school.

By Kewkiekid (Kewkiekid) on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 - 07:35 pm: Edit

oh yea, i got xmas cards from 20 or more schools. however, none of them are from schools i'm applying to.

By Freak4korn72 (Freak4korn72) on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 - 09:20 pm: Edit

I got a bumper sticker from Cornell after visitng, and then the Big Red Book is really nice.

I also got about 2 tons worth of crap from other schools that I never requested information from. 2 tons of paper is impressive. Hah kidding.

By Briteeyez4322 (Briteeyez4322) on Thursday, January 01, 2004 - 12:58 am: Edit

I got the American U. magnet poetry too as well as the Willamette air freshener (now hanging in my car ;) hehe). I also got THE CUTEST application from a school... I want to say Mitchell College. I am not joking, the thing was like a 4x4 little card booklet! Sadly I'm not really interested in the school but it would have been a really cute app. to fill out! haha. I also love getting all the personal letters and cards from the schools, they make me feel special :) Sadly they're all mostly from the less competitive schools that I'm not really interested in... :( Oh well. Also, I enjoyed visiting schools and having the choir directors give me free CDs of the various performing groups. Twas a nice touch :)

By Mshell (Mshell) on Thursday, January 01, 2004 - 02:35 am: Edit

wellesley's viewbook is very cool.

i didn't really get this in the mail, but Bryn Mawr gave its prospective students LIP BALM with "Bryn Mawr... it's on everybody's lips!" written on the label.

i thought it was really random.
