haha well i havent but seriously...probably a mix of these few
1)amazing grades
2)amazing test scores
3)amazing recs
4)special talents/awards
5)recruited athlete
6)URM
7)legacy
8)another "hook"
9)fantastic/creative essays
basically, you wont get too far without the first three. the other ones are things that really get you in. the first three are prerequisites.

well for the most part they are. unless you are a special case (i.e. i know someone who got into Columbia with a 1000 SAT/3.0 GPA. recruited athlete). i think athletes get the biggest break...unless you are famous or the child of someone famous (think George W, Olsen Twins, Chelsea Clinton). who knows what they want nowadays?
