Son accepted ED to Princeton...Great grades; great class standing at a huge school; great test scores on the ACT and SAT; great EC's; terrific letters of recommendation...

Kind and loving and encouraging family.

haha well i havent but seriously...probably a mix of these few

1)amazing grades
2)amazing test scores
3)amazing recs
4)special talents/awards
5)recruited athlete
6)URM
7)legacy
8)another "hook"
9)fantastic/creative essays

basically, you wont get too far without the first three. the other ones are things that really get you in. the first three are prerequisites. :)

no they're not...

By Sunshine916 (Sunshine916) on Thursday, December 25, 2003 - 01:01 am: Edit

well for the most part they are. unless you are a special case (i.e. i know someone who got into Columbia with a 1000 SAT/3.0 GPA. recruited athlete). i think athletes get the biggest break...unless you are famous or the child of someone famous (think George W, Olsen Twins, Chelsea Clinton). who knows what they want nowadays?

good scores, good grades, and good ecs.

i think my essay was what sealed the deal.

By Matlm (Matlm) on Thursday, December 25, 2003 - 10:17 am: Edit

lol, no I mean in the essay, they ask you why you wanted to attend the school, what did you say?

I'm sorry I should have been more clear.

columbia:

for the experiences; the fact that the city (NYC) itself provided a place for hands-on learning

By Alphachimp (Alphachimp) on Saturday, December 27, 2003 - 02:38 am: Edit
