Does anyone know when Mac ED letters get mailed, and if they're notifying online or not??

send the admissions office an email and ask..Our son's a soph. there and every contact we had w/ their admissions people was helpful and courteous..Besides..just looking at yr profile..i'd guess they'd want you on principle. He's loved it there..and you won't even have to adjust to the cold, as he did...

"Early Decision I applicants whose applications are completed by November 15 will receive a decision from Macalester by mid December. Early Decision II applicants completing their applications by January 15 will receive notification by Early February."

well this is silly..you can't edit messages more than 30 min. old.

But assuming you get in and are interested in music, our son's loved the music dept. there. It's very strong in composition, which was a big draw for him. Most LACs have one composition teacher & a fair number of performance teachers. Mac has at least 3 composers on the music faculty, including the new chair of the dept. Marjorie Merryman who's teaching a composition. class w/ 4 kids! (They also have plenty of performace teachers available).

I hope you are accepted! My daughter is a very happy first year student. Mac is a great fit for kids who are bright, unpretentious, political, want an urban environment, and don't mind the cold. You seem to fit that description. She is not particularly interested in music, but I am. I attended a music class (appreciation) during parents' weekend, and I thought it was great. Good luck to you! If for some reason you are not accepted ED, and need to broaden your options take a look at Reed (not generally known for its music program). A friend and neighbor is on the music faculty, and is a nationally-regarded composer. Reed is a fantastic school for someone with your political inclinations, and would have been my daughter's choice except that it's in our back yard. But I'll still send hopeful Mac ED thoughts your way.

I got into Mac ED! I got the email today saying that I was one of 80 students currently being offered admission, so it looks like they're sending the decisions in batches. All the best muzicgal04!

4.1 weighted GPA
100 hrs comm service
good EC's, one strong leadership position...thats about it

and i got accepted!
