I applied to the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
The application status is
"Deferred - Manual Review Req"
and I don't know what this is.
Is it like waiting list?

urbana has rolling admissions?

i dont think they defer people.

Yes, they have rolling admissions. Deferred means after the first review of your application, you were not strong enough to be admitted among those that applied. However, your application will be considered again --- a decision will be made whether or not to accept you by April.

Here is what the USNWR Ultimate College Directory says about UIUC deferrals - "for fall 2002, 792 applicants were put on a waiting list (deferred). 197 were enrolled from the waiting/deferred list."

Therefore, it's important to let them know that you absolutely are still interested and send them any extra materials (recommendations, new awards, new grades, etc.) that may help your case when your application is reviewed again.

I applied in October, got that same message, and I was accepted in November without sending in any extra info.

It'll be okay.

I had called UIUC and I was informed that :If your High School does not give a rank, or if you have studied overseas ( there could be many other flags) your app goes through an manual review.Manual review does NOT mean deferral. Expect review and decision between Dec and April
