How important are essays for UC admission? thanks

and also, is it bad to talk about competitions and stuff you've been in? i heard it's bad to brag in your essays but...:\

you're supposed to brag in the UC essays!

i dunno about the importance though. hopefully not too much, considering mine suck a whole lot.

and for UC essays, do they really have to be that personal? they have many to read :P

I think the most important part of the UC application is that section where you either are or are not a California resident.

Then class rank.

Then SAT's.

I don't even think UCLA and UCB will; even get to my essays. At UCSD I think they might get read because of my 1480. Maybe.

Personally I wouldn't sweat the essays.
