the topic for middlebury's supplemental essay is "describe an experience in which your values were tested. how have you grown from this experience?". i have an essay but i'm afraid the adcom's won't like it. it's about the pressure towards academic dishonesty at my school (and i would imagine most schools) and cites an incident of plagiarism... would an essay like this make me look bad? i don't know what else to write about... anyone have some "safe" ideas for topics?

The essay would only make you look bad if you plagiarized or helped or condoned others doing so.

Well...hmmm. I don't think it's cut and dried but it depends on how you handle it. Helping or condoning plagiarism is obviously not good. But I think there are pitfalls, such as coming across as a sanctimonious goody-two-shoes or just handling the topic in a shallow pat manner. It *could* be a really good essay...but there are dangers.
To crib a line from Marie Antoinette, execution is everything.
