Do SAT 2s count in admissions, and what about placement/exemption from classes? Are you all set for any college if you get at least a 600 on each one?
By Godis (Godis) on Thursday, November 13, 2003 - 07:25 pm: Edit
sat2s count very much. a 600 on each one won't do anything for you. in terms of the most competitive colleges, you're "set" (meaning that your scores won't detract from your application, not get you in automatically) with a 750+ on all your tests.

so 700+ but not 750 + will actually hurt you??

i got 720, 790, and 800, does that mean i'm screwed?

Um, actually, it depends on the school. A 600 on the language SAT II can exempt you from the forign language requirement at Vassar.

well lets say the ivies. or top colleges, like amherst, etc.

I got 800,800,760 - will that make me a shoo-in at any of these places?

SATs: 680, 690, 690
SAT1s: 730 V 800 M
What do you think?
By Piquant77 (Piquant77) on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 01:42 am: Edit
I got an 800 Chinese, which means pretty much nothing, 780 Writing which I think is quite good, and a 700 Math IIC which is not so hot. But I'm not majoring in math, I took IIC because I didn't know it was going to be that hard and it's always been my best class.
Considering the fact that I'm doing IB Diploma and taking all high level classes in english, chinese, & geography and standard level in physics, math and economics (along with my EC's like journalism and social/volunteer stuff, shows my clear emphasis on the social and not scientific areas of study) do you think this low math score will hurt my app to schools like Yale, Stanford and Harvard?

I think they see it all in context of your other credentials. I mean if you had a 680 on the US History SAT 2 but had a 5 on the AP, which one would they believe? The test that only required you to choose answers from multiple choice or the test that made you write 5 freaking essays? It really just depends I think...anyway, it's just a score; it doesn't sum up all that you've achieved...they're not stupid and they probably know that

do they count at umich and uiuc in anyways??
By Mk1o3o (Mk1o3o) on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 02:28 pm: Edit
um, what about...
740 math iic
is that going to kick me out ivy league level colleges? (Johns Hopkins ED)
By Chatterjoy87 (Chatterjoy87) on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 03:08 pm: Edit
I don't think SAT IIs kick anyone out, everything as a whole matters... I heard people say that some highly selective colleges don't like SAT II Chinese, is that true? I'm also taking IBs, Piquant77, although it's frustrating that IBs are two years long so I'll still have to take all of them senior year. Which colleges offer placement for SAT IIs and would it replace the AP/IB test functions there?
By Godis (Godis) on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 04:47 pm: Edit
colleges don't like satII chinese if you're chinese. if you're not oriental and you scored well on the test (ignore the percentiles) then colleges like the test very much.

I believe that UCs exempt freshmen english if you score a 680 or higher on the writing test. or pass the ap english test
By Mk1o3o (Mk1o3o) on Monday, November 17, 2003 - 11:00 am: Edit
does that imply that a low writing sat II score won't hurt my application? is it only used for placement at most schools?
By Kiwi (Kiwi) on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - 10:23 pm: Edit
i got 800 physics, 790 Chem and 790 IIc but 740 m and 740 verbal in SAT. Are the lower SAT's offset by the highish SAT II's? (I'm applying for Ivies)
