I was wondering if 210 or 215 words would be okay for the UC essay? Anyone know?

If they say it's 200, then do your best to make it 200.

I did answer you. The answer is yes, it's ok.
This, from UC Notes: "Follow the word-count guidelines as closely as you can to stay within the 1,000-word limit, but don't worry if you run a little over or under on an individual question (for example, 205 or 199 words is fine)."

twinkletoes, judging from your profile, i'd say you go overboard in everything. ;) but really i think it says a lot about your character, and it's a positive thing in your situation. (if you're not tediously boring)

While its ok to go over the limit I wouldn't recommed it. What my dad told me, and I agree with him, that in many job applications (and college essays are pretty much the same thing, you are advertising yourself) when there are word limits you are expected to stick to them, and in fact if you stay right on the word limit it shows that you actually care, more than someone who went 20 or 30 words over. This is because it shows you took the time to go through, word by word and find ways to compact it and remove words to get to the limit (this is what I had to do), and this is a skill in itself. It also shows you didn't just copy and paste an essay that was used for a different school without at least respecting the UC's word limit. I'm attempting 200, 200, and 600 exactly though I might be a little paranoid and a word or two under will probably not hurt, but I would definitely not go more than 10 up or 10 down.
