Could anyone tell me what college admissions officers really look for in an essay. Are they concerned about the "word choice" of an essay as an english teacher would be, or are they really looking at the message of the essay. I'm havin trouble deciding wether to write an intelligent sounding essay or tell them what i want in simple, straight forward language.
What do u guys think?

dont make prodigious use of a thesaurus; your essay will sound forced and robotic most of the time. colleges are doing two things with the essay. they are seeing how you write in a limited amount of space, and they are also seeing the type of person you are, through the way you write.
