I'm in my school's key club, and i'm wondering how many hours of community service I should have if I want to mention it on my college apps. I've heard it doesn't look good if you're in a club like that, but you haven't participated much. So how much is a minimum to mention? thanks.

My daughter's school recommends that students only list community service if they've spent 60 or more hours at a single site or project because that represents a long term committment. They discourage including a long list of "5 hours here , a saturday there" type of community service - because it won't show much committment to colleges and thus is basically useless. However, it will be fine to say that as a key club member you have spent X total number of hours on various community service projects without listing them all. If you've been a leader on any of the club's projects, you could also mention that.
