By Trojan1444 (Trojan1444) on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 07:00 pm: Edit

I got a 1460 the first (and only) time I took the SAT. 740 Verbal, 720 Math.

I studied really hard for the verbal section, but not so hard for math because i've always done a lot better in math.

I really think if I took the SAT over again I could get at least a 760 or 770 in Math, which would raise my "composite" score to like 1500 or so. However, my verbal score would probably drop.

Is it worth taking the SAT over again even if my total score drops? Say I take it again and get like a 770 Math and 660 Verbal. My total score would have dropped, but my math would have improved and given me a better "composite" score to combine with my old verbal score....Do schools care if your second score is lower?

Take it over again if you wish. Most schools will consider your top math and top verbal from any sitting, not just the same sitting.

Thus if your math goes up to 770 on the retake but your verbal goes down, that's okay because you've already posted a 740V. So they'll take your 740V and 770M and consider those for admissions purposes.

Although many schools will consider your top math and verbal scores from any sitting, you better check the fine print with each school. For example, the UC's only take scores from the same sitting of the SAT I.
