If you were planning to just sit at home and do nothing, then I would recommend participating in a summer program.

I think it's a good thing to do if you have an idea of what you'd like to major in, and can find a summer program that fits with that interest, and particularly if it's at a college that you might want to attend. My daughter did that, and it was really beneficial for her.

You should do SOMETHING that year. A pre-college program can be good. If you have an area of interest or want to see a college you're interested in, it can be beneficial. If you feel like you need a break from learning, are tight on $, or otherwise can't go, getting a job/interning/volunteering can also be beneficial.

Calidan, you haven't provided enough information to make suggestions. Look for programs in subjects you are interested in at schools or in cities where you think you might like to be for college. Do you want a math camp or a dance program? Is money an issue? Do you have your sights set on Harvard, a music conservatory, an engineering school, or what?

i would like to be on the coasts, not too far north on the east coast, not too deep in the south... inerested in political science (maybe), international business, [international] journalism. just a normal precollege summer program, no specifics.... if you have experience at one, please share!
