So the story is, a year ago I had a moving violation (car accident with failure to yield, I said no contest). THe thing is, a college application I'm filling out wants me to report if I've been convicted, plead guilty, or no contest to any moving violations. Is this part going to kill me for admissions? I didn't think a car accident I had would affect how I would get into college, thanks!

Are you sure the application is asking for moving violations or just felonies?

I'm positive, they have a place for felonies, and a place for moving violations. Isn't that weird? cuz a speeding ticket also counts as a moving violation.

What exactly is a moving violation?

By Emmat551 (Emmat551) on Saturday, September 06, 2003 - 06:04 pm: Edit

a moving violation is something like a traffic accident, or a speeding ticket. You're only allowed 2 before you're 18 until your license is taken away. Can anyone answer this?

How do they know when you've gotten into an accident? I was in one, but how would anyone know?

Hsimpson, you DO have a legal record of these things. Would a college bother to check? If they bother to ask, maybe.

There are ways to get moving violations taken off your record, and I don't think it's right for colleges to be considering a kid's speeding tickets in the admissions process.

What college is this, btw?

If colleges turn downed teens because of moving violations, class sizes would be REALLY REALLY small.

Colleges can't actually check your record if you have minor stuff on there like misdemeanors because those are seal records for juveniles
