My essay topic shows exactly who i am and it shows a single characteristic that makes me unique. The only problem is it doesn't fall directly into the two topics offered by the UC applications.

Hehe. I can't answer your question with certainty but I'm in the same boat. I'll be posting my essay here later tonight for a crit . I say go for it, man.

Hopefully some one will answer so i no to wether i could use a back up essay that isnt quite stunning but falls into a category.

Maybe you can send the back up essay and also send the one that really reflects who you are as an optional essay.

i'd say send it. it's the writing that matters, and if it really does represent you well than they shouldn't mind getting off topic

i still doubt that the UC's would even read it though... it's all about the GPA and SAT's in the UC system, still

not true at berkeley about it being all about the gpa and sat's. compare berkeley's selectivity to their midrange

Glad i have fellow students on the same page. Hopefully get admitted for creativity or something. I'm putting alot of weight on my essay
