how important are these essays in the admissions process? are they suppposed to be written creatively, or in a straight forward manner?

Actually, I had the exact same question. Anyone out there have any ideas about what the colleges are expecting for these types of essays?

Penn has an essay like that and an admissions officer that I spoke with said that many students don't think it is as important as it is for Penn. It's weight just as heavily as the other essay that penn requests.
