If you're TRYING to show a lack of class.
Avoid swearing at all costs. That comes off extremely poorly.

Okay. I just need a way to grab their attention.

That would probably get you rejected quickly.

"Okay. I just need a way to grab their attention."
LOL. What were you planning on doing?

i don't know. if it's in a quote and the word is not modded by CC, i guess it's fine.

I'm thinking about quoting somebody: "If you don't mind me asking, what the hell happened to you?"
To put it in context: how i used to make C's and D's, and then high school came and made nearly straight A's.

If you need to grab someone's attention I'd avoid using swears.
Why not just go for the full monty in this scenario?

I don't get it though because the whole purpose of an essay is to realistically portray yourself and the story you tell. How can you animate something by toning down the language to an unrealistic level?

Restraining yourself from swearing should not be such an unfathomable idea.
And they might see your true colors if you swear, that does not mean they are going to LIKE it.

"How can you animate something by toning down the language to an unrealistic level?"
Writers have been doing it for centuries.
I guess one way to look at it is which sounds like the writer you think an adult reader would rather wade through:
a. The day my dog died, I felt like f____g
s__t.
b. The day my dog died, I huddled in the corner of my room and stared blankly at nothing all day.
Cursing is definitely not to be done in the essay. You should not even quote someone else (find a different quote). On something like this, always assume that the first person at the college who is going to see your essay is a Baptist preacher, a former nun, or someone who firmly believes the constitution should be amended to require kids who swear to have their mouths washed out with soap.
