I just came back from the Minority Introduction to Engineering program at the Coast Guard Academy...it was pretty much a week of boot camp. It has by far been the most challenging yet rewarding experience I have ever had. Would that be a good essay topic?

Sounds like a terrific topic to me. Just make sure you use lots of examples and explain how it changed/affected you.
