Do I type it or hand-write it?

Hi, Sam. There aren't any hard and fast rules on this. Hand-written would be typical for a brief note. On the other hand, if you want to write something lengthy, or if your penmanship is awful, typing the body and then, of course, signing it, would be fine too.

Either way, I'd avoid a Hallmark-style thank you card and just write a brief, personal note in your own words.

Sam, assuming that you are still interested in the college you visited (since you are bothering to thank them, you must either have liked the place or be one very polite guy!), be sure to let them know that you are highly interested in the school after seeing the place first-hand. You might even point out some aspect of the school that you found interesting or attractive - it will show you were paying attention. Also, if your acceptance comes down to the question, "Is Sam really interested in our school, or are we just a random safety?" expressing your interest in this way might help. Good luck!
