THIS IS NOT BECUZ I NEED ATTENTION OR PITY- SO PLEASE READ FIRST B4 JUDGING!

I wanted to start on my admissions essays ASAP and were trying to come up with topics that indicated who i was and told the admissions ppl more about me.

I thot of writing about my parents: my mother has issues that need couseling; she has a terrible temper and is also QUITE violent- even my father and her own family acknoleges this!

My father: went to military school; is very strict, has horrible temper and used to have a drinking problem

My parents are very unsupportive to say the least and i spend(t) a lot of time crying during my life becuz of them. This is somthing very personal- only a few(handful) of ppl know how my life really is.

The way my parents are hv shaped me -both positively and negatively. In my essay i would talk about everything (emotionally) i went through, but im not sure how college admissions officers would view this...
so ...

Is this a bad idea? I dont want them to think im doing it to have them feel sry for me and immedietly let me in- its just a big part of my life story and a very emotional part too. I dont want anyone to pity me...so should i even talk about it?

Thanks for all ur input

I would never write about something that personal, because it could strike an admission officer in a certain way depending on the adcom.

I think you're opening up a can of worms with this topic. It will be tough to use this as a topic and not sound like you're asking for pity unless you have a very convincing way to explain how you've overcome this "hardship". I think many admissions people might just say "well, heck, most kids don't like their parents so why is this kid such a whiner?" Find something else that will let you demonstrate WHY a school should admit you.
