We lived in SA for a few years and my son was dropped into a local Spanish-instruction school while knowing very little Spanish. He is now fluent, we are back in the US and he was here (US) for the second half of his 10th grade and on. However, his grades for 9th and part of 10th grade are low b/c he was also learning Spanish and cultural rules of a local (private, good school) SA school. How will that affect his college chances? I realize this can be addressed in an essay, but in reality it is my impression that the first thing they look at during the admissions process is the transcript, which does not look too good. has anyone else had this experience? hard to believe we are the only expats in the US facing this issue.
