Recently, my school decided to recind an old plan to offer Weighted grades to kids who were in Concert Band + Jazz band and tested for Solos and Theory. I've been with the program for 2 years now, and next year.. I will not receive that Honors credit, which bumps my Rank from 1 down to 20ish, should i stay with Band?
Thanks

You are KIDDING me? Not receiving honors credit will change your rank from ONE to TWENTY? How competitive is your school?! Well...anyway, if you're number 1 right now (as a junior), then you should stay number 1 until at least fall of senior year, right? If that's the case, you still get to put down #1 on the application, regardless of whether or not you drop down later. I'd say stay with band. You want to stay dedicated to music, man!

You will still receive the extra credit for your first 2 years, right? If this change has already been adopted, I would recommend you have your parents make a WRITTEN request to the school and school board to include a written explanation of the change in your records file, to be included with any transcripts sent to colleges. They should give your parents an advance copy of this explanation. Ask now before you really need it - it might give them cause to re-consider. We faced a somewhat similar situation and the policy was changed. Good luck!

I am currently in 10th grade and thus I have 2 more years to go, and 20 isn't my estimate, it was the computer's when i went to my counselor.
I'm seeing my Principal tomorrow about it, should i be asking for 1. a reversal? 2. an attachment to my transcript?
And yes i get to keep what i already got, this is not an ex post facto decision.

My present school offers a pass/fail option for a maximum of two electives. Maybe this could be a possible solution?

Personally, I would start by asking for the written explanation described above. I would say that since I plan on applying to very competitive colleges/scholarship competitions - my parents and I would like to view the formal explanation as soon as possible. At this point, I believe this approach is more feasible than going for a reversal. If they know your parents are really serious about the request, they should give it some serious thought. In my experience, most people are more willing to revise their positions if they think it is their OWN idea. Always give them an out and don't try to make it a win-lose situation. Again, good luck from a whole family of serious musicians.
