What does everyone think about Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California?

I think it is a good school but there are a couple of in-state catholic schools that are a little better than Loyola Marymount. Namely University of San Diego and Santa Clara. But Loyola Marymount is right up there too.

Anyone else have any opinions?

My daughter's school typically sends quite a few kids to Loyola Marymount and they all seem to be happy with their choice. Loyola Marymount has some excellent programs - they're especially good for Film/TV and Business. Overall, I think it's an underrated school. I would say academically, it's probably lower than Santa Clara but equal with USD. I also get the sense, however, that there's a bit more of a "religious" atmosphere at LMU than there is at Santa Clara or USD.

Another good california school that is up with Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount and USD is the University of San Francisco. USF is the easiest of the four schools to get into and I believe US News and World ranked them on the same tier as University of San Diego.

Loyola Marymont is ranked #3 on USNEWS for universities (west coast) where the highest degree is masters. Its ranked ahead of Cal Poly but is below Santa Clara which is ranked #1. USD and USF are second tier doctoral universities. I'd say LMU, SCU, USF, an USD are all pretty similar in selectivity though.

I believe out of the 4 (USD,USF,SCU,LMU) the University of San Diego is the most selective.

Santa Clara University- 1110-1300 (75%)

Loyola Marymount University- 1030-1280 (60%)

University of San Diego- 1070-1260 (50%)

University of San Francisco- 1030-1240 (79%)

I think they're all relatively similar in terms of selectivity. The reason I think these private schools aren't more popular is because of the strength of the California public university system.
