I am interested in knowing when we should give up.

Speaking of Washington University, I never heard of it but the first time I saw it was in the US News World rankings...how the hell did it jump up to 10th?

Could any of you share your experience with WUStL? What were your SAT's and GPA's? Did you have a personal interview? If so, what was it like? What was your overall impression of the school? Thanks.

I was waitlisted, but I didn't pursue it because I received a nice scholarship from a top 20 university. I had a 1520 SAT, 2350 SAT II's, 4 5's on AP's and took 6 this year, and was ranked in the top 5% of my class. I didn't actually visit the school, but I have heard that it is a great place, and I think that all of the people from my school that have gone there have loved it. Good luck.

Some top 5 american universities are not even top 20 in a world ranking scheme. Check this out:
http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/ranking.htm
In particular, DUKE, which is ranked by USNEWS at #6 or so, is ranked only #32 in the world.
