Well, I sent in my check a few weeks ago mostly due to the fact that I was an Excellence and Equal Oppurtunity Scholar - which gave me nice financial aid (I would only have to pay what it would cost to go to my state school Rutgers)... none of the other colleges I was accepted to gave me that much money - which I really need. However, after visiting, I'm feeling really uneasy about my decision of attending because of the atmosphere. I don't mind the hippies or the just odd people or anything of that sort... however, I'm one of those people who just can not stand condescending people. It really put me off seeing some students just standing around smoking and looking at me like I was out of place (which is what I felt!). I'm trying to reassure myself about my decision with the fact that one of my friends is coming along with me, the fact that they have an intense writing program, and the fact they gave me a lot of money. However, I know it's going to drive me nuts once I get there. I have a strong feeling I'll be transfering out of there! Plus, it's way too in the middle of nowhere for me. I like my quiet and space, but I love the bustle of the city too. Sarah Lawrence was my ideal pick because of its closeness to the city and it's writing program, but they only gave me $13,000 in grants. I'm completely unknowledgable about transfering... do you think they would ever give me more money if I tried again? Or any suggestions for other colleges to transfer to? I feel terrible that I'm thinking of transferring before I get there, but I'm very nervous about Bard's atmopshere. Thank you.

Wierd. I had a good friend who went to Bard, and one year (several years ago) I went to visit over Spring Break and stayed nearly a week on campus. Coming from TX, I was certainly an outsider at a small east-coast college, but I had a great time and found everyone there to be friendly. They all went to great (and amusing) lengths helping me to sneak into the dining hall.
