Hey, this is a purely hypothetical question
But how would being the translator of a piece of foreign literature that is subsequently published in the US or England help.
Would it help push you into the 'unusuals' bin at Harvard admissions.

Depends. Vanity press? Or no?

suppose you have translated a piece of modern folklore that epitomizes a nation's culture of the last 1000 years

The Concord Review is an attractive credit if you're interested in majoring in one of the social sciences, especially, of course, history. It demonstrates that you have the writing and research skills to make it through an intensive editorial review process against peers from across the country.

Thanks, Carolyn. My daughter just found out her research paper will be published in the June edition. She was very happy about it. She also was a finalist in this year's Profile in Courage essay competition. Maybe these will enhance her applications?

Rondafaye,
Tell your daughter congratulations! That is a wonderful accomplishment. It will certainly enhance her college application --- and I think so will the Profile in Courage essay award will as well. The neat thing about the Concord Review is that so many kids focus on getting science type awards --- I think it helps set you apart if you've done something a bit different, especially if you're interested in the social sciences or humanities.

Carolyn
