I’m currently a freshman at Northwestern University, but would like to transfer next year to the University of Pennsylvania.

Assuming that I will get good recommendations, what are my chance of transferring?

1470 SAT 750M 720V
Exp. GPA: 3.7~3.8
Prospective Major: Economics

Just curious... Why do you want to transfer?
On the surface, these two schools are very, very similar...
both top 12 national universities in very urban settings...
both have phenomenal business schools & economics programs... both are very solid in every major academic discipline... similar caliber students with similar grades/scores... both schools have pretty much the same excellent reputation...

Transfer admissions is harder than freshman admissions because there are far fewer places. Usually, though not always,
you need a hook as to why you NEED to transfer... you will have to make a case for the need/want to transfer in your essay.

yea, you need a good reason to transfer, not " i don't like this school", so what is your reason?

Transferring from one top school to another is EASY. I did it, got in everywhere I applied with only a 3.5 first semester. My advice is say that you have done everything possible at your old school to make it work, but for some reason it didn't. So get active with some clubs, etc. Not liking where yopu are now is part 1, part 2 is saying why you like the place you want to go.
