I'd also be interested in information about Lafayette.
When you get in the second half of the top 50 liberal arts schools (USNEWS LIST) I think it's important to really investigate the school and all aspects of it. I'm willing to pay the big bucks for a very top college but I need some concrete evidence that the same dollars are worth spending on a school such as Lafayette, Dickinson, Union etc. So fi anyone could offer any information about Lafayette that would be greatly appreciated.

Well, have you visited it? It is a beautiful campus but in a (if you love PA, the following might be hurtful) trashy, run down, old mining PA type city. Half of the stores are closed and there isn't much at all there. THANKFULLY, the campus is quite a different story and is literally, on a secluded hill overlooking the city and mostly gated. I know they are restoring the city, but I can't stress enough my disapointment with it. There are no TAs, which is a major plus in my opinion and gives it a major edge over Lehigh(a big rival)... I got the impression that it was not very diverse- many upper/upper middle class white kids. Decent travel abroad program, GREAT facilites, they've got tons of endowments which allows them to rebuild and remodel everything. Nice dorms, etc.
I too am having a hard time justifying the cost of Lafayette because it is not known AT ALL. It isn't that highly ranked and costs just as much as others which are. I am applying and have already had an interview(which they strongly rec) and actually, it is probably my top choice school depending on the aid I get(haha... I'm assuming I get in
) A small school, beautiful campus, lots of frat boys, AND engineering? What more could I want?

My DD's best friend attends Lafayette and has had a wonderful academic experience. She is an econ major and has been able to spend the last two summers doing research with her favorite professor, and participated in a very valuable semester in Spain. During the recent hurricane, the whole area below Lafayette flooded, but the hillside location kept the kids dry (though in the dark!!). Overall Lafayette has been a very positive place for D's friend. Good luck to you!
