College Discussion Forums: College Search and Selection: Search based on tuition rates
By Salsa178 (Salsa178) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 10:09 pm: Edit

I have found a website with a list of universities that offer biomedical engineering programs. However, sifting thru the list and visiting websites is too time consuming.

Does anyone know a way to search and find universities based on tuition rates?

thanks a lot

US News has an advanced college search where you can search by cost ranges of less than $10k, $15k, $20k, and $25k (including room and board). Some less expensive but excellent programs include UCSD ($7k in-state), Georgia Tech ($4k in-state, $18k out-of-state), Michigan ($9k in-state), University of Washington ($5k/$18k), Rice ($19k), University of Virginia ($7k in-state), Berkeley ($6k in-state), Texas ($6k/$18k), Purdue ($6k/$19k), Utah ($4k/$12k), Wisconsin ($6k in-state), Penn State ($10k in-state), and Illinois ($7k in-state).

Berkeley and UCSD should have the same UC instate rate, shouldn't they? And, neither is a bargain if you're out of state - you'll pay about $23,000 in tuition plus fees before you even get to books, room and board, travel, etc. The UC's themselves tell out of state students to expect total costs as an out of state student to be about $38,000 a year.

Different UCs charge differing amounts for room and board. That may explain some of the difference between UCSD and Berkeley.
