hi all! okay here's the deal, my number one choice school is UMICH. but i need some safeties that i like. i really don't like michigan state. at all. i applied because i figured if they would give me scholariships i would consider going there- i got in to MSU yesterday, but im still waiting on Umich. here are my stats:

i go to an EXTREMELY competitive private college prep school in michigan (it got the highest points of any other school in michigan for difficulty level under michigan's long gone point system)

gpa the Umich way - 3.5
gpa the normal way (freshman year included) - 3.6
weighted gpa - dunno diff people do it differently but my counselor said it was between a 3.7 and a 3.8

bad thing - i did better sophmore year than junior year. i worked harder junior year. i took harder classes though

SAT - 1340 verbal 690, math 650 thats my best
SAT II'S - writing (720) biology (600)

ECS -
i love little kids -
volunteered at ymca child care center (125 hours)
volunteered with handicapped children (135 hours)
had two jobs at camps for little kids two consecutive summers
volunteered at hospital - 36 hours throughout freshmen year

school ecs-
women's issues council - was an exec board member in 11th grade, as a senior im president all four years high school
model un - have been secretary and vice president all four years of high school
student tutor - was in 11th and am now as a senior
was on jv tennis all four years

i applied to UMICH and MSU on august 19th - i had teacher recs in by august 20th and test scores in by august 22nd to both schools (i got my recs done last year so i could apply before school started). i want to go to umich lol more then anything!

my college counselro said "statistically i should get in" but thats not a yes lol. i want some safeties that i like cuz i really really don't like MSU...........

anyone have any ideas? im applying LSA to UMich btw......

what i want in a college
- location: doesn't really matter to much, closer to michigan is better if possible but now i just want opitons
- size : big big big (ive attended a small school my entire life im sick of it)
- academics: i wanna go premed.......
- diversity is very important to me....

anyone know??

oh one more thing. i applied to michigan state six minutes exactly after applying to UMICH> both schools received everything on the same day.... how long do u think it'll be before UMICH will give me an answer?? i got michigan state's yesterday so will it be long for UMICH to reply?

The typical recommendation for midwesterners looking for excellent biological sciences or med school prep at a large universtity is University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ohio State would also be recommended. You can't get a bigger school than OSU and I believe it would be a safety for you.

You don't have to go to the biggest schools in the country to get to a school bigger than your prep school. If you would be interested in something in the middle, Case Western Reserve or Miami of Ohio might be worth investigating. Case is a match for you; Miami a match/safety. Miami is not very diverse, however.

OSU is certainly big! 50,000 students stuck right in the middle of a city of 1 million, are you sure you don't want mid-sized schools, below the umich and osu, but bigger than small colleges?
