Yeah, i know cornell is the best at engineering at all, w/ a beautiful campus, good food, etc., etc.
but is undergraduate engineering important at all anyways? i've heard people say that only graduate school matters at the end, and that undergraduates are just the learning of basics.
so would anyone recommend i took engineering at brown or dartmouth and take with me their higher prestige than supposedly true educational value?
how do they rank the strength of engineering departments anyhow? by what jobs the student's get after they graduate?

and is cornell truly that unhappy, suicidal place some people say it is?

and though dartmouth looked horribly boring the time i went there, reviews actually gave it a good rating based on undergraduate student's contentness of their undergraduate experience.
is this b/c of the type of students that were selected, or because of the school?

If you want a rural environment, I would choose Cornell over Dartmouth. If you're gonna be in the boonies, better be at a large school instead of a very small school!
Brown would be a fine choice if you want urban. It's extremely liberal. And no grades.
I'd say, first choose urban or rural. If urban, go with Brown. If rural, choose between Cornell and Dartmouth -- if you're doing engineering or even if you're not I think there's more to do at Cornell than there is at Dartmouth. Cornell will keep you busy, both inside class and out. Dartmouth, well... you'd find something to do I guess.
BTW, Brown and Dartmouth don't have higher prestige than Cornell. They're all about the same.
If you were a junior and not a senior (not sure if you have already gotten in or if you are getting ready to apply), I'd say if you wanted urban you might want to look into Penn and Columbia too. If it's prestige you want, or if you're not a social activist, they might be slightly favorable options to Brown.
