My grades aren't great, but I've got solid credentials otherwise... what do you think my chances are?

SAT: 770 math, 730 verbal, 750 math IIc, 740 writing, 720 biology
National Merit Semi-Finalist (217 PSAT)
ECs: Top 3 in the state (Virginia) in forensics in my category. Academic team captain. Newspaper editor (both my school paper and an "alumni newsletter" for my old middle school. Four-star member of the International Thespian Society, have been in eight plays in high school alone. I work part-time, but only five hours a week. I have played a few intramural sports, but not in the past couple of years.

Grades:

AP: A's in Computer Science II and Calculus. B's in US History and English (junior year).
Honors: B's in English (freshman and sophomore), World History (freshman and sophomore), Algebra II, Precalculus, and Biology.
Advanced: A's in Computer Science I and Spanish I and II. B's in French III, Chemistry, Physics.
General: A's in two theatre classes, two school newspaper periods (these are actual credits, yes), and four health/gym/driving classes.
So anyway, the GPA is 3.53 unweighted and 3.94 weighted (I think...), which ranks me in the top 7% of my class (20something out of 350something). It's a lot of B's, but a really rigorous courseload.

So what are my chances at Columbia (and while you're at it, Penn, Michigan, UVA, William and Mary, Georgetown, and Wesleyan)? :)

i think you have a shot at columbia, and penn if you apply ED. Michigan is very hard to say, because your GPA is very mediocre, and they place a lot of weight on it (about 70%) i dunno about the other schools, and are you URM? if you are, you should get into all these places rather easily. if you aren't, its all based on luck. good luck!
