In serious contrast to what seems to be a majority of those posting on this forum, I am as my handle says I am: Undecided. This is more in the sense of ambivalent than uncaring, however. Here is a list of interests, career-wise and major-wise, in no particular order:

* Painting
* Writing
* Photography
* Architecture
* Neurosurgery (neuroscience, psychology -- pretty much anything to do with the brain and behavior and so forth)
* Genetics
* Florist (well, go figure)
* Something to do with horses (probably a philanthropic interest rather than a career-oriented one)

So. Someone sell me your interest -- tell me all the great things about it, why I should go for it, what might not be so good about it, what sort of skills are essential, what sort of schools are good for continued studying of it, what requires no prior experience to do correctly or well... anything! I want to know. I'm exploring the future -- perhaps a little too late.

BUMP? I know someone who's not an engineer or political sciences major wants to boast. C'mon.

well,
when I picked my major I narrowed my list by ruling out the interests that I could keep as hobbies. I was thinking about photography, which I loooooove, but realised that I don't want to do it every day and make a living out of it, still I plan to take a class or join a club in college.
So say, neurosurgery and architecture might be hard to have as a hobbies, while you can always grow your own garden and have a darkroom or artstudio in that litte extra room of your apartment.
Also, not to be too superficial but if you're smart enough to be a neurosurgent, you shouldn't become a florist. Believe me, the pay is not so good and there's not so much room for career developement, but you can always keep it as a fallback plan.
I think you should major in either:
-writing
-architecture
-neurosurgery or
-genetics
you shouldn't go for the artistic alternatives unless you are absolutly caught up in the fasination of them, and if you become so during college you can always change your mind.

Once you decide on a major, don't forget to take classes or join clubs to keep your other interests alive, mabe you'll realise that major wasn't for you anyway.
Eventuallly you'll figure it out. Go with your feelings. Good Luck

I appreciate your insight, Carrro; you make a few good points. My one concern with ditching my artistic interests in favor of a more career-oriented one is that I'm *not* as smart as I think. ;)

Forgetting that for a moment, I mostly agree with your list, except that I'd probably take writing out of it. Writing has always been my strong point when I've wanted it to be, and while I could develop it through classes and a hundred thousand dollars of debt, there are cheaper ways I could think of -- ways that would allow me far more artistic license.

It looks like, then, that my top choices are still my top choices, and I'll have one heck of a hobby list in the background. :>

Horses? How about Animal Husbandry?

Don't say it. Don't anyone say it. Just leave the straight line sitting there and back away slowly.
